Position Overview: We are seeking a highly professional and proactive Plaza Security Officer to maintain safety, order, and a first-class environment within a privately owned public space (POPS) and all outdoor areas contiguous to the commercial building, including sidewalks, entrances, and surrounding perimeter zones.

This is a high-visibility, high-expectation role suited for an experienced officer who can operate independently, exercise sound judgment, and represent the property with professionalism. Candidates with prior law enforcement experience—particularly retired NYPD—are strongly preferred.

This position will report to the Director of Security, and in his absence to the Plaza Security Supervisor

  • Enforce all POPS rules and property regulations in a consistent, professional, and legally compliant manner
  • Exercise trespass authority as directed, including identifying violators, issuing clear instructions, and initiating removal when necessary
  • Coordinate with NYPD when required, including requesting response for enforcement support or escalated incidents
  • Address quality-of-life conditions such as loitering, disorderly conduct, unauthorized vending, and obstruction of pedestrian flow
  • Respond to incidents, disturbances, and emergencies using de-escalation techniques and sound judgment
  • Conduct continuous patrols of all exterior zones, including entrances, exits, and adjacent areas
  • Provide directional assistance and customer service to tenants, visitors, and the public while maintaining a security-first mindset
  • Observe and report suspicious activity, hazards, or maintenance concerns affecting the exterior environment
  • Prepare clear, detailed, and accurate incident reports and daily activity logs
  • Maintain professional communication with building management, tenants, and supervisory staff
  • Support special events, increased foot traffic periods, and heightened security postures as needed
  • Proven ability to engage professionally with individuals in vulnerable or high-stress situations, including those experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, or substance-related impairment, and to safely de-escalate agitated or aggressive behavior.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience law enforcement, or related field
  • Prior experience in high-profile outdoor or public-facing security roles preferred
  • Retired law enforcement
  • Strong understanding of trespass enforcement and public/private space dynamics
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to remain composed, professional, and decisive in high-pressure situations
  • Valid NY State Security Guard License (required)
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification preferred
