About the Position:
The Assistant Store Director supports the Store Director in overseeing all aspects of store operations, including sales performance, customer service, team leadership, and operational execution. This role is responsible for driving store performance, ensuring operational excellence, and developing team members to achieve company goals in a fast-paced grocery retail environment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the Store Director in achieving sales, margin, and profitability goals
  • Monitor daily store performance, including labor, shrink, and inventory levels
  • Ensure execution of merchandising standards, pricing accuracy, and promotional displays
  • Maintain high standards of store cleanliness, organization, and safety

Team Leadership & Development
  • Supervise, coach, and develop department managers and hourly team members
  • Assist in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and training staff
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and performance-driven work environment
  • Support performance management, including evaluations and corrective actions

Customer Experience
  • Ensure exceptional customer service is delivered consistently across all departments
  • Address and resolve customer concerns in a timely and professional manner
  • Lead by example on the sales floor, promoting a customer-first culture

Perishables & Inventory Management
  • Oversee freshness, quality, and rotation standards in perishable departments (produce, meat, seafood, cremeria, kitchen, bakery)
  • Support inventory control processes, including ordering, receiving, and shrink reduction
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation standards

Compliance & Safety
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain compliance with health, safety, and food handling regulations
  • Support loss prevention initiatives and cash handling procedures

Financial & Administrative
  • Assist with scheduling and labor management to meet productivity targets
  • Review reports and KPIs to identify trends and drive improvement
  • Support budgeting and cost control initiatives

Required Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3-5+ years of retail grocery experience, including supervisory or management experience
  • Strong knowledge of grocery store operations, including perishables
  • Proven leadership and team development skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Experience with retail systems (POS, inventory, scheduling software)
  • Knowledge of food safety standards (Food Service Manager certification)

Physical & Work Requirements
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Prolonged standing, walking, and occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs)
  • Fast-paced retail environment with frequent customer interaction
