Your Job:

As an Assistant Retail Store Manager, Back-of-House (BOH) Operations at Brooks, you support the leadership of a Brooks brand retail store and work closely with the Retail Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager, FOH to deliver the premium service experience customers expect. You help lead and inspire the retail store team, ensuring every customer interaction reflects our mission to inspire everyone to run and be active. Your primary focus is retail operational excellence. You oversee smooth retail daily operations, create retail staff schedules, support physical inventories, manage incoming and outgoing retail inventory, lead seasonal product flips, and help drive retail sales through strong product storytelling and seamless retail store execution. You partner with the Assistant Store Manager, FOH to ensure the retail team is fully trained on all retail store operations, opening and closing procedures, and POS operations. As the store's resident product expert, you lead retail product knowledge training and empower the retail team to deliver confident, informed recommendations that support customers of all backgrounds and abilities.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Partner with the Store Manager to: Lead the overall BOH operation to achieve budgeted revenue and profit goals.

    • Drive inventory efficiency and maximize sales by maintaining ideal inventory levels.
    • Manage labor spend through educated scheduling choices.

    • Coach, develop, and manage performance of the store team to provide a premium level of service to our consumers; train staff to treat everyone entering the store, from elite athletes to first-time runners, with the same degree of enthusiasm, support, and acceptance regardless of their abilities.

    • Encourage an environment of sharing excitement about the run, storytelling, and supporting people's efforts to "Live Brooks" through being active and staying healthy.

  • Create store schedules for effective staffing before, during, and after business hours.

  • Monitor store cleaning and operations supplies and place all supply orders.

  • Place inventory orders and partner with the Brooks Distribution Center to manage inventory flow when the Store Manager is on scheduled PTO.

  • Manage receipt and return of all inventory coming to and from the store - this includes regular orders, RMAs, and transfers.

  • Manage back-end responsibilities for returned unsellable inventory.

  • Lead and organize seasonal product flips by partnering with the Store Manager and Visual Merchandising contact.
  • Maintain expert product knowledge with the ability to train.
  • Facilitate quarterly product training for sales associates.

  • Work the sales floor - be an expert at product knowledge, driving sell-through, and service-oriented storytelling.

  • Provide feedback and analysis to the Store Manager and Manager, Retail Operations on a regular basis to ensure the store is operating at the high level of service and performance that customers expect.

Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in Sales, Marketing, Business Administration, or related field; equivalent years of experience can be considered in lieu of degree(s)
  • 3+ years of experience in retail; previous inventory management experience preferred
  • 1+ year of leadership experience within the retail industry, preferred
  • Knowledge of retail math, inventory management, turn, gross-margin, open-to-buy, product merchandising, and retail selling skills
  • Knowledge of performance athletic footwear/apparel/accessories and their related technologies
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods
  • Ability to successfully lead independently or alongside the store manager
  • Demonstration of innovation and initiative - always looking at improving processes while also displaying a willingness to dive into the details and help out wherever necessary
  • Ability to anticipate how a decision made can affect our customers, our partners, our products or other departments' operations and/or morale; "connecting the dots"
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that inspire and build trust, resulting in effective working relationships across the store and company
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating effective listening through concise, clear verbal and written communication
  • Keen attention to detail in planning, organization and execution of tasks, while still seeing the big picture and understanding how all of the pieces fit together and affect one another
  • Passionate participation in Brooks' sports activities a plus, overridden by the ability to understand and empathize with the runner in order to develop loyal, engaging relationships with our customers and the Brooks community

Compensation: The pay range for this position is $23.27 - $32.59 per hour.  Base pay offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
