Job description

STIHL Power Equipment Associate

Downtown Ace Hardware - Fort Collins, CO

26-40 Hours per Week | Weekends Required (In-Season)

Downtown Ace Hardware is seeking a highly detail-oriented Power Equipment Associate with a strong mechanical foundation to lead our STIHL brand experience and

outdoor power equipment category. This is a technical, high-responsibility role that requires both hands-on mechanical understanding and the ability to confidently educate customers on proper equipment use, maintenance, and safety. For the right candidate, there is an opportunity to pursue additional training and become a certified technician.

While our preference is to hire long-term team members, we recognize that some strong candidates may be available for the summer season only. If you bring reliability, initiative, and strong availability during our busiest months, we encourage you to apply.

What You'll Do

  • Complete and maintain all required STIHL brand training
  • Develop deep product knowledge across chainsaws, trimmers, blowers, and other outdoor power equipment
  • Educating customers on features, safety, proper usage, and maintenance
  • Troubleshoot equipment questions and guide customers toward appropriate solutions
  • Maintain accurate inventory and ensure equipment is properly assembled and merchandised
  • Support warranty conversations and service coordination
  • Assist with other outdoor power equipment brands and training
  • Help support Lawn & Garden and other departments as needed
  • This role demands precision, follow-through, and strong attention to detail.
  • This is an active, fast-paced department - especially during peak spring and summer months.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong existing mechanical understanding of small engines or outdoor power equipment
  • Ability to quickly absorb and apply brand-specific technical training
  • High attention to detail and safety awareness
  • Confidence explaining technical concepts clearly to customers
  • Strong organizational skills and task follow-through
  • Ability to move with purpose in a fast-paced retail environment
  • Reliability - especially on weekends during peak season
  • Initiative - you look for what needs to be done
  • Positive, solution-focused communication

Schedule & Availability

  • 26-40 hours per week
  • Weekends are required during peak spring and summer season
  • Store Hours:

Monday-Saturday: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM

Sunday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM

  • Team members work a variety of shifts including mornings and evenings
  • Strong preference for candidates available both weekend days during spring and summer.
  • Flexible start dates

Compensation & Benefits

  • $16-$19 per hour depending on experience
  • Generous employee discount
  • Medical, Dental, and Eye Insurance available for qualifying employees
  • 401k for qualifying employees
  • Paid time off for qualifying employees

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable climbing ladders
  • Ability to move and handle outdoor power equipment safely
  • Willingness to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions

Growth Opportunity

For candidates interested in advancing their technical expertise, there is an opportunity to pursue additional training and work toward becoming a

certified technician.

We value team members who want to build real skills - not just fill shifts.

This position will remain open until filled.
