What is retail development?

Retail development involves planning, creating, and managing retail spaces or strategies to maximize sales and customer engagement. Professionals in this field work on everything from identifying locations and negotiating leases to designing store layouts and optimizing product placement. The goal is to ensure retail environments meet consumer needs and business objectives, often collaborating with marketing, merchandising, and operations teams. Retail developers may work for brands, landlords, or property developers, and are key to expanding a company's physical presence.

How does a retail development professional typically collaborate with store managers and merchandising teams to implement new initiatives?

Retail Development professionals play a key role in bridging the gap between corporate strategy and in-store execution. They regularly collaborate with store managers to understand operational challenges and gather feedback on new concepts or layouts. Working closely with merchandising teams, they help design and roll out product displays, promotional campaigns, or store redesigns to enhance customer experience and drive sales. Effective communication and project management skills are essential, as these professionals often coordinate timelines, training, and resources across multiple stakeholders.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in retail development, and why are they important?

To thrive in Retail Development, you need a solid understanding of market analysis, site selection, and retail operations, often supported by a degree in business, marketing, or real estate. Familiarity with CRM software, geographic information systems (GIS), and financial modeling tools is typically required. Excellent negotiation, relationship-building, and project management skills set top performers apart in this field. These skills ensure successful identification and execution of new retail opportunities, driving business growth and competitive advantage.

Job description

Shape the Future of How Trust Works Online

Imagine being the first voice that opens doors to million-dollar opportunities. Picture yourself as the spark that ignites partnerships across industries - from electronics traders to M&A advisors to automotive dealers - connecting them with the world's most trusted payment platform.

This is your chance to join Escrow.com, part of the Freelancer Group, and launch your sales career protecting transactions for a category-defining Fintech platform:

Escrow.com: The trust layer of the internet, with over US$8 billion in transactions secured, powering everything from domain sales to vehicle transactions to business acquisitions

You'll thrive here if you: Think in opportunities. Speak with confidence. Believe great sales development opens doors through persistence, creativity, and genuine value.

Work alongside ambitious sales professionals in our downtown Vancouver office. Our culture celebrates hustle, rewards results, and measures success in meetings booked, pipeline created, and careers accelerated.

Ready to launch a sales career that matters?

As Sales Development Representative, you will:

Own outbound prospecting end-to-end identifying, researching, and targeting qualified leads across B2B electronics, M&A, digital assets, and automotive segments, turning cold databases into warm opportunities

Execute strategic multi-channel outreach crafting personalised campaigns across calls, emails, and LinkedIn to engage business stakeholders and decision-makers, breaking through noise to start meaningful conversations

Qualify and create opportunities conducting short discovery conversations to understand pain points, assess fit for Escrow.com's solutions, and book qualified meetings that hand off warm opportunities to Account Executives with complete context

Manage your pipeline like a business maintaining accurate CRM records in HubSpot, orchestrating your own outreach cadences, tasks, and follow-ups with the discipline and organisation of a seasoned sales professional

Collaborate cross-functionally working with Growth, Marketing, and Account Executive teams to refine messaging, improve outreach strategies, and increase conversion rates based on real-world feedback from the front lines

Respond to inbound demand qualifying and routing leads from Escrow.com's marketing funnel when needed, ensuring fast response times and smooth handoffs that maximise conversion

Iterate and improve constantly testing new approaches, tracking what works, and scaling successful tactics while learning from every conversation to sharpen your sales instincts

Requirements:

6 months to 1+ year of experience in outbound sales, customer service, retail, or another high-volume environment where you developed resilience, communication skills, and the ability to handle rejection while staying motivated

Sales tool proficiency with hands-on familiarity with modern sales technology including HubSpot, Apollo.io, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, and G-Suite for managing outreach and tracking activity

Comfort with outbound engagement including cold calling, email campaigns, and LinkedIn outreach to engage stakeholders across industries without fear of picking up the phone or sending the first message

Understanding of B2B SaaS sales motions including outbound cadences, qualification frameworks, and the patience required to nurture prospects through longer sales cycles

Self-starter mentality with strong internal drive to hit - and exceed - performance targets, motivated by the dopamine hit of booking meetings and creating pipeline

Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, with ability to craft compelling outreach messages and hold confident discovery conversations with senior business stakeholders

Organisational excellence managing your own pipeline, workflows, and day-to-day tasks without needing constant oversight or hand-holding

Get-it-done attitude pushing through rejection, uncertainty, and complexity while consistently delivering results and finding creative ways forward

Nice to have:

Experience sourcing and qualifying leads end-to-end with proven track record of exceeding KPIs such as meetings booked, pipeline generated, or quota attainment

Interest or experience in B2B electronics, M&A, digital assets, or automotive sectors with an understanding of how high-value transactions work and what drives buyer and seller trust

Interest or experience in startups, fintech, digital payments, or escrow services with curiosity about how trust and security enable commerce

Previous exposure to high-value or complex sales cycles where relationship building and persistence are critical to success

What's In It For You:

Career Acceleration

True meritocracy: Your output directly drives your trajectory. Top performers consistently promote into Account Executives, Growth, and leadership roles within 12-18 months.

Ownership culture: Run your territory like it's your business. We reward those who think like entrepreneurs and execute like closers.

Direct leadership access: Small team structure means you work directly with sales leadership, learning from the best and getting real-time coaching on your deals.

Innovation & Learning

Quarterly Hackathons: Two-day innovation sprints where you'll see how product development works alongside your sales motion - building empathy for what you sell

Sales skill acceleration: Learn consultative selling, qualification frameworks, objection handling, and relationship building from experienced Account Managers and leadership

Cross-functional exposure: Work directly with Marketing, Product, and Growth teams, understanding how inbound and outbound motions work together to drive revenue

Industry diversity: Engage with prospects across B2B electronics, M&A, digital assets, and automotive - building versatile business knowledge most SDRs never get

Lifestyle & Perks

Downtown Vancouver office: Modern workspace in the heart of the city with engaged, ambitious teammates who celebrate wins together

Uncapped earning potential: Strong base plus performance-based incentives that reward hustle and results - top performers significantly exceed OTE

Clear progression path: This isn't a dead-end SDR grind. It's year one of a sales career with defined milestones to Account Executive and beyond

Supportive team culture: Work with people who genuinely want you to succeed, share what works, and celebrate each other's wins

Career trajectory that matches your ambition: We promote from within. Our current VP of Product started as a grad. Our Head of Support began as a CX agent. We boast a meritocratic culture, renowned for hiring into senior roles from within and producing many business and product leaders in the technology industry. This SDR role is your entry point. When you consistently deliver, your career moves at startup speed with public company backing.

This won't be your typical "smile and dial" SDR sweatshop. You'll work in our downtown Vancouver office with a small, focused team where your individual contribution matters. If you're hungry to break into tech sales, willing to do the hard work of outbound prospecting, don't need constant validation, and want to fast-track your way to quota-carrying roles with serious earning potential, then this is your shot.

Success comes down to four things:

Taking Charge & Getting Scrappy: You find creative ways to generate opportunities and make progress, even without a perfect playbook

Driven & Hungry to Progress: You're motivated by growth, responsibility, and earning potential - and you put in the work to level up quickly

Always Curious: You ask smart questions and dig into the "why" behind a prospect's needs, building genuine rapport

Get-It-Done Attitude: You push through rejection, uncertainty, and complexity, consistently delivering results when others give up
