A Taste of What You'll Do

As a Business Development Manager - Retail Wine, you'll play a critical role in bringing GALLO's wine portfolio to life across retail accounts by executing sales strategies that drive growth, revenue, and long-term brand equity. Acting as the primary GALLO representative in your assigned state or states, you'll partner closely with distributor leadership and sales teams to translate strategic priorities into impactful marketplace execution.

In this role, you'll balance winery-facing strategy with distributor and field execution, focusing your time and resources on the highest-value opportunities. You'll assess market dynamics, analyze performance data, and leverage pricing mechanics to make informed recommendations that maximize contribution across the portfolio. By staying agile and responsive to shifts in winery direction and consumer trends, you'll help ensure our brands are positioned for sustained success.

You'll collaborate cross-functionally with distributor partners and internal teams to deliver annual sales plans, execute national programs, coordinate new item launches, and support consumer engagement initiatives. Through training, coaching, and market leadership, you'll influence execution at every level-while serving as a passionate ambassador for GALLO brands in the marketplace and local community.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's degree plus 4 years of GALLO Winery sales, marketing, or affiliated or non-affiliated distributor sales experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR Bachelor's degree plus 6 years of wine or spirits sales, marketing, restaurant/hospitality, or distributor experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR High School diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 8 years of GALLO Winery sales, marketing, or distributor sales experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR High School diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 10 years of wine or spirits sales, marketing, restaurant/hospitality or distributor experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Candidate is required to have a valid driver's license, a safe driving record and reliable vehicle (if applicable) at the time of hire. This position will undergo a motor vehicle check (MVR) to confirm a history of safe and responsible driving. If needed, candidate must obtain the appropriate state driver's license based on the position's location within 30 days of hire.
  • Required to travel by air and automobile up to 50% during the course of business.
  • Required to be 21 years of age or older.
  • Required to lift and move product weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Required to employ an alternative work schedule to include weekends and evenings.
  • Required to obtain a liquor license as required by state/locally.
  • Required to travel to company offices, sites, and/or meeting locations for onboarding, training, meetings, and events for development, department needs, and business delivery up to 5% of the time, with or without reasonable accommodation. This may be in addition to travel requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.
  • Required to be 18 years or older. This may be in addition to other age requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.

How You'll Stand Out

  • Bachelor's degree plus 6 years of Gallo winery or distributor sales experience to include a prior rotation as a Portfolio Consultant, Business Development Manager, Market Development Manager Sr, or Account Manager 2; OR Bachelor's degree plus 7 years of external alcohol sales experience to include spirit sales experience.
  • Direct managerial or supervisory experience with sales, retail, or on-premise employees, such as District Manager, Area Manager, State Manager, or Field Marketing Manager.
  • Demonstrated experience selling or marketing GALLO brands and building strong internal and external customer relationships through data-driven decision making.

  • We offer a broad salary range to allow for long-term growth. Actual compensation paid within the range will be determined by multiple factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. In addition to the salary, this position may be eligible for bonuses, incentive plans, or participate in tasting room tip pools, as applicable.
  • This position will be based in the location(s) specified in the job posting and requires regular travel within your assigned territory. Occasional travel to company sites may be required as needed.
