About the role.
Reporting directly to the Director of Retail Sales, the Customer Development Manager (CDM) is responsible for driving growth, profitability, and strategic partnerships across key retail accounts. This role manages the full McCain retail product portfolio and focuses on developing customer-specific strategies, delivering sustainable revenue growth, and building strong relationships with key decision-makers. The ideal candidate combines strategic thinking, commercial acumen, and analytical expertise to drive business performance and maximize return on investment.
What you'll be doing.
  • Develop and execute strategic account plans to drive sales growth, revenue, and profitability.
  • Manage the full product portfolio while collaborating cross-functionally with Marketing, Finance, Supply Chain, and Operations to align customer strategies and execution plans.
  • Own trade spend and promotional budgets end-to-end, from investment planning through post-event evaluation to maximize ROI and ensure financial accountability.
  • Lead the development and execution of annual Joint Business Plans with divisional Directors and Merchandising teams to align on mutual growth targets and GTM strategies.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with buyers, category managers, and senior customer stakeholders.
  • Identify growth opportunities and implement initiatives that drive incremental sales, market share, and customer value.
  • Deliver compelling customer presentations supported by category insights, market trends, and business analytics.
  • Partner with Supply Chain and Operations to ensure accurate forecasting and demand planning.
  • Monitor key business performance metrics and provide data-driven recommendations to improve results.
  • Lead customer business reviews, top-to-top meetings, negotiations, promotional planning, and product launch execution.
What you'll need to be successful.
  • University or College degree in Business, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of CPG sales experience with a proven track record managing National or Key Accounts.
  • Experience working with major retail customers; Loblaw and/or Shoppers Drug Mart experience is considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of trade marketing, category management, and retail analytics.
  • Experience utilizing syndicated and customer data sources such as Nielsen, LDIA, IRI, and POS data.
  • Demonstrated success in sales planning, customer negotiations, and revenue growth initiatives.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing trade spend and promotional investments.
  • Strategic mindset with excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and collaborate effectively across multiple functions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.

The Customer Development Manager is part of the Retail Sales organization and reports directly to the Director of Retail Sales. This role works closely with cross-functional partners across Marketing, Finance, Supply Chain, Operations, and Sales Strategy to deliver customer growth and business objectives. Compensation Package:$97,500.00 -$130,000.00 . CAD annually + Bonus Eligibility
