Locations: Atlanta, GA; Charlotte, NC; Orlando, FL

Industry: Financial Services / Commercial Banking

Salary: $87,360-$155,000

Role Overview

Manage and maximize recovery on a portfolio of complex classified commercial loans in accordance with institutional policy, regulatory procedures, and strategic recovery goals. The successful candidate will oversee a portfolio of high-value, complex credit structures—primarily syndicated corporate and middle-market loans—while identifying capital market opportunities and fee generation potential.

Essential Functions

  • Portfolio Management: Lead the restructuring and resolution of complex syndicated credits, serving as the lead agent or active participant in steering committees to influence credit resolution strategies.
  • Professional Advisory Oversight: Coordinate and manage relationships with external restructuring professionals, including legal counsel, financial advisors, and investment bankers.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with internal debt trading desks, leveraged finance teams, and sponsor groups to explore resolution strategies such as capital raises, bond issuances, or asset sales.
  • Executive Representation: Act as the primary point of contact for C-suite executives of publicly traded companies under economic stress, negotiating consensual paths forward that protect the institution's interests.
  • Restructuring & Recapitalization: Drive the balance sheet restructuring process (both in-court and out-of-court) and oversee asset marketing processes for liquidations or going-concern sales.
  • Negotiation & Documentation: Lead the negotiation of critical documentation, including credit agreements, inter-creditor agreements, restructuring support agreements (RSAs), and non-disclosure agreements.
  • Strategic Reporting: Provide accurate monthly forecasting for non-performing assets and charge-offs; complete impairment analyses and accrual justifications for criticized asset reporting.
  • Internal Consultancy: Advise middle-market relationship managers and credit officers on risk mitigation strategies for emerging criticized credits.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Banking, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years in commercial banking, loan workout, or distressed debt management.
  • Technical Expertise: Significant experience with syndicated and complex credit structures, including in-depth knowledge of capital markets products and balance sheet management.
  • Legal Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of U.S. Bankruptcy Law and both in-court and out-of-court restructuring processes.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional negotiation and interpersonal skills; the ability to maintain composure and deliver firm messaging in high-pressure or adversarial environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or Master’s degree in Finance or Banking.
  • 20+ years of experience in commercial loan workouts and senior relationship management.
