Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR), restorative care documentation systems, and quality assurance tools is crucial. What is the difference between Restorative Director vs Restorative Therapist?

AspectRestorative Director

The Restorative Director oversees restorative programs, manages staff, and develops policies within healthcare or correctional facilities. They typically hold advanced degrees in social work, counseling, or criminal justice, and have leadership experience. Restorative Therapists focus on providing direct therapeutic services to individuals, often holding certifications like Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). They work directly with clients in clinical settings. While both roles involve restorative practices, the director manages programs and teams, whereas therapists deliver individual or group therapy sessions.

What is a Restorative Director?

A Restorative Director is a professional responsible for overseeing restorative practices and programs within an organization, often in educational, justice, or community settings. Their main role is to implement strategies that promote conflict resolution, relationship-building, and community healing through restorative approaches. This may involve facilitating restorative circles, training staff, and ensuring restorative principles are integrated into policies and daily operations. The goal is to create a culture of accountability, empathy, and support among all members of the organization.

How does a Restorative Director typically collaborate with educators and support staff to implement restorative practices in a school setting?

A Restorative Director works closely with teachers, counselors, administrators, and other support staff to embed restorative practices into the school's culture. This often involves organizing training sessions, facilitating restorative circles, and supporting staff in managing conflicts using restorative approaches. The director also consults regularly with educators to review disciplinary data, assess the effectiveness of interventions, and tailor strategies to the specific needs of students and staff. This collaborative environment helps ensure consistency and fosters a positive, inclusive school climate.
