Under the direction of the Building & Grounds Director, the Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing general maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of the building and grounds at the branch. This role supports safe, clean, and functional facilities, assists with program and event setup, and may act as a designee for shift assignments or departmental coordination. This position requires demonstrating YMCA leadership competencies to uphold the mission, purpose, image, and core values of the YMCA of Greater Rochester.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Perform routine and preventative maintenance tasks for building systems, equipment, and grounds.

Repair and maintain building surfaces, structures, property, and operational equipment as directed by the Building & Grounds Director.

Maintain pools, filter systems, and associated aquatic equipment.

Inspect, clean, and maintain custodial equipment.

Assist in ensuring facility cleanliness and perform custodial duties as needed, including locker rooms and fitness areas.

Paint premises and perform construction or restoration projects as directed.

Report any damage or required repairs to the Building & Grounds Director promptly.

Assist with supervising and directing cleaning staff and other maintenance personnel.

Set up, take down, and store program and event equipment consistently and safely.

Shovel snow, clear, and salt sidewalks during inclement weather to maintain safety.

Remain accessible and on call for building emergencies as a backup to the Building & Grounds Director.

Support membership retention by ensuring timely facility and equipment repairs and maintaining high standards of facility cleanliness and safety.

Maintain flexibility to work adjusted schedules, including evenings and weekends, as operational needs require.

Attend all required meetings and trainings.

Perform other duties as assigned to support branch operations and the YMCA mission.


Requirements


Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED.

Candidates must have a minimum of three years' experience in building maintenance with a skilled background in one or more of the various trade disciplines (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, masonry, carpentry, and energy management).

Must have the ability to operate maintenance equipment or willingness to acquire the necessary skills.

Possess thorough knowledge of building cleaning to include disinfection, carpet care, tile and hard floor maintenance, wood floor care, and cleaning equipment maintenance are major components of this position.

Must possess strong organizational skills as well as excellent communication skills.

Must be able to work independently, as well as collaboratively with fellow staff members.


ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to work indoor and outdoor in normal environment with some exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations and temperature changes.

Ability to move within the building including movement from floor to floor and outside the building.

Ability to consistently stand, bend, stoop, reach, climb stairs/ladders and lift up to 75 pounds on a repetitive basis.

May handle human body fluids and be exposed to chemicals using universal precautions as part of the daily operational duties.
