What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a restoration company role, and why are they important?

To thrive in a restoration company role, you need knowledge of restoration techniques, safety regulations, and often certifications such as IICRC (Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification). Familiarity with industry-standard equipment, moisture meters, and project management software is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help professionals excel in high-pressure, client-facing situations. These competencies ensure projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to industry standards, which is vital for client satisfaction and business reputation.

What are restoration companies?

Restoration companies are businesses that specialize in repairing and restoring properties that have been damaged by events such as water, fire, mold, or storms. Their services often include emergency response, cleanup, structural drying, mold remediation, and reconstruction. Restoration companies use specialized equipment and techniques to return homes or businesses to their pre-damage condition as quickly and safely as possible.

Restoration companies provide comprehensive disaster recovery services, including fire, mold, and water damage, often managing large projects. Water damage technicians specialize specifically in water-related repairs, typically working on smaller, targeted jobs. Both roles require similar certifications, but their scope and focus differ, with restoration companies offering broader services within the industry.

What are some typical challenges faced by employees working at restoration companies, and how can they prepare for them?

Employees at restoration companies often encounter challenges such as responding to emergency situations after fires, floods, or storms, which can involve irregular hours and physically demanding work. They may also face the need to quickly assess damage, communicate clearly with distressed clients, and coordinate with insurance adjusters and contractors. To prepare, candidates should be adaptable, possess strong problem-solving skills, and be comfortable working in fast-paced, changing environments. Training in safety procedures and customer service is also highly beneficial for success in this field.

Job description

Pack2Normal โ€“ Contents Restoration Business Development Representative

Position Summary

The Pack2Normal Contents Restoration Business Development Representative is responsible for driving business growth by developing relationships with restoration contractors, insurance professionals, commercial clients, and property management companies. As a contents-only restoration company, Pack2Normal partners with restoration companies that do not offer in-house contents services, allowing them to provide a complete restoration solution to their customers while maintaining ownership of the client relationship.

This position is focused on generating new referral partnerships, increasing brand awareness, and positioning Pack2Normal as the premier contents restoration partner throughout the markets we serve.

The ideal candidate is an energetic, relationship-driven sales professional who understands that trust, responsiveness, and exceptional customer service are the foundation of long-term partnerships.

About Pack2Normal

Pack2Normal specializes exclusively in contents restoration. Our mission is to restore our customers' personal belongings and peace of mind after fire, water, mold, storm, and other property losses.

Unlike full-service restoration companies, our sole focus is contents restoration. This specialized approach allows us to provide industry-leading expertise in:

  • Emergency Pack-Out Services
  • Contents Cleaning and Restoration
  • Textile and Soft Goods Restoration
  • Electronics Restoration
  • Document and Media Recovery
  • Art and Specialty Item Restoration Coordination
  • Secure Contents Storage
  • Inventory Management
  • Pack-Back and Final Delivery Services

We proudly serve homeowners, businesses, insurance carriers, and restoration contractors by becoming an extension of their teamโ€”not their competition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop new business relationships with restoration companies that need a trusted contents restoration partner.
  • Build strategic partnerships with restoration companies, insurance adjusters, insurance agents, property managers, commercial property owners, and facility managers.
  • Conduct daily sales calls, networking events, lunch-and-learns, and educational presentations.
  • Educate restoration contractors on how outsourcing contents restoration allows them to increase profitability, improve customer satisfaction, and focus on structural restoration.
  • Promote Pack2Normal as the preferred contents restoration partner while ensuring our restoration partners remain the primary contractor on every project.
  • Generate new referral opportunities from plumbers, HVAC contractors, roofing companies, electricians, and other trade partners.
  • Create emergency response partnerships with commercial clients and property management companies.
  • Maintain regular communication with referral partners through scheduled visits and follow-up meetings.
  • Track sales activities, opportunities, and customer interactions.
  • Work closely with operations to ensure every referral receives exceptional service from first contact through final delivery.
  • Attend community events, chamber meetings, industry associations, and trade shows to increase company visibility.
  • Meet or exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual sales goals.

Why Restoration Companies Partner with Pack2Normal

The Sales Representative must confidently communicate the value of partnering with Pack2Normal, including:

  • Specialized contents restoration expertise.
  • Faster turnaround times.
  • Increased customer satisfaction.
  • Reduced operational overhead.
  • No investment required in contents facilities or specialized equipment.
  • Access to trained contents restoration professionals.
  • Accurate inventory and chain-of-custody documentation.
  • Secure storage facilities.
  • A true partnership that allows restoration contractors to retain ownership of their customer relationships.
  • White-glove customer service that reflects positively on every referral partner.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of outside sales or business development experience preferred.
  • Experience within restoration, insurance, construction, moving, contents restoration, or disaster recovery is highly desirable.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong networking and relationship-building abilities.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and CRM software.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Desired Characteristics

  • Competitive and goal-oriented.
  • Highly professional in appearance and communication.
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Strong negotiation and closing abilities.
  • Customer-first mindset.
  • Team player who collaborates well with operations.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, service-driven environment.
  • Passionate about helping people recover after disasters.

Performance Expectations

Success will be measured by:

  • New restoration company partnerships established.
  • New insurance and commercial referral relationships developed.
  • Monthly face-to-face sales meetings completed.
  • Revenue growth from new and existing referral partners.
  • Customer satisfaction and referral partner retention.
  • Commercial account development.
  • Achievement of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales goals.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Commission plan available after 90 days.
  • Vehicle allowance or company vehicle (where applicable).
