Job description

This might be a great fit for you if you have limited hours, are semi-retired, have a disability, have limited or no work experience, gaps in your employment history, or looking to gain new skills.


Position Objective:


Keep the rest area clean and attractive and work with ODOT to provide a safe environment for the traveling public.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Clean assigned areas thoroughly, maintaining high quality work. Restrooms must be cleaned a minimum of twice daily, more often when needed.

  • Keep floors and walls clean and free of buildup and staining.

  • Keep litter and waste paper and trash collected and tied securely in plastic bags.

  • Keep storage area and office/break areas clean.

  • Responsible for snow removal, grass mowing/removal and trimming, trash removal, litter pickup and keeping walks and parking areas clean, clear and safe. Mow and trim grass to contract standards. Only use equipment you have been trained and assigned to use.

  • Must be familiar with all chemicals used, Safety Data Sheet location, and how to locate the SDS folder in the event emergency personnel need to see the folder.

  • Adheres to and follows all safety policy/procedures and Hazmat Communication guide.

  • Operates custodial and grounds maintenance equipment properly and in a safe manner.

  • Keeps equipment clean and report equipment issues to immediate supervisor.

  • Report safety concerns or any other concerns or unusual circumstances to supervisor. Must follow al safety and other company policies and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications and Skills:



  • Custodial and lawn care skills.

  • Ability to operate janitorial and grounds maintenance equipment.



Education:



  • High School or GED desired.


Physical Demands:

Requires prolonged periods of standing and frequent overhead reaching, pushing and pulling bending, twisting, kneeling, stooping, handling objects with use of both hands. Employee is required to use hands and fingers to handle objects, tools or controls. Must be able to lift 50 pounds frequently and job requires moderate to intense physical labor. Important sensory sills are sight, hearing, speech and ability to communicate effectively. Employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, crouch or crawl.


Work Environment:

Usually fast paced with frequent interruptions. Involves exposure to various elements including extreme heat, extreme cold, allergens, chemicals, odors and other irritants generated by cleaning and lawn care duties. May be using power tools and be exposed to noise. Exposure to regular instances of critical or unusual situations. Dress code and grooming requirements.

Must work non-traditional hours i.e. nights, weekends and holidays. May work various shifts; day, evenings or midnight's. May be required to work alone. May be asked to work at various job sites throughout Ashtabula, Lake and Trumbull counties.
