Job Description
A Universal Worker is responsible for providing personal care and other assistance in the assisted living facility. Universal Workers may be called upon to help residents in and out of bed, and with dressing, grooming, personal hygiene, toileting, feeding and bathing. Universal Workers will be called upon to provide certain basic treatments, assist with medications and take resident vital signs as requested by the Assisted Living Nurse Manager. Additionally, Universal Workers will be requested to help with housekeeping and laundry tasks as assigned by the Assisted Living Nurse Manager. Universal workers are responsible for observing and reporting changes in residents' physical and emotional conditions to the Assisted Living Nurse Manager. Excellent communication and team skills are needed. May be required to work a variety of shifts depending on tenant needs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Provides services to tenants as listed on the service plan and as delegated by the Assisted Living Nurse Manager.
  2. Bathe or assist tenants in bathing via a bed bath, tub, shower, or whirlpool.
  3. Perform or assist tenants with personal grooming needs such as shaving, hair care, oral hygiene, denture care, skin care, toileting, and cosmetics.
  4. Assist tenants in dressing and undressing as needed in clothing appropriate to the time of day and season of the year.
  5. Assist tenant in caring for and securing personal articles, labeling clothing, etc.
  6. Change bed linen.
  7. Assist tenants with before and after meal routines such as washing face and hands, transporting to and from the dining area or preparing environment for in room dining.
  8. Provide tenants prompt mealtime assistance if needed.
  9. Report appetite changes and request substitutions when necessary.
  10. Assist tenant in with elimination needs such as help with managing incontinence if listed on the tenant service plan.
  11. Assist tenant in transferring from bed, chair, wheelchair, toilet, etc. using appropriate equipment and following the principles of proper body mechanics if assigned in the service plan.
  12. Provides light housekeeping and laundry services as listed on the tenant service plan.
  13. Assists and helps direct group and individualized activities for tenants as assigned by the Assisted Living Nurse Manager.
  14. Other duties assigned by the Assisted Nurse Manager needed to complete tenant service plans and as properly delegated by the Assisted Nurse Manager.
  15. Documents on tenant and facility records as required by the assisted living's policies and procedures.
  16. Responds to tenant emergency calls while on duty and summons help as indicated according to facility policy and procedure.
  17. Ability to reasonably conform to all rules and policies of this facility.
  18. Reports to and communicates with the Assisted Living Nurse Manager about changes in tenant condition or requests or needs for services.
  19. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
High school graduate or GED preferred. All applicants must be at least 16 years old. Medication Aide certification is required. Completion of a seventy-five-hour nurse aide course is required. Universal Workers must be able to read, write and follow written and oral instructions in English. Failure to maintain certification as a nursing assistant will result in termination.
