The incumbent shall plan, organize, and assist in the Quality Management activities, education programs, coordinate co-worker orientation and development. The Education Coordinator will assure that all TJC guidelines are completed. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards. Position Details:
Education Coordinator – Respiratory (Full-Time)Lead Clinical Excellence and Professional Development at Mercy

Mercy is seeking an experienced and dedicated Education Coordinator – Respiratory to provide clinical leadership, education, and quality support within our Respiratory Therapy Department. This role is responsible for overseeing clinically oriented aspects of direct patient care, coordinating educational and competency programs, supporting quality management initiatives, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Education Coordinator serves as a key resource for respiratory therapists and interdisciplinary teams by facilitating orientation, staff development, ongoing education, and performance improvement efforts. This position is instrumental in promoting clinical excellence while exemplifying Mercy's mission, values, and Service Standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and oversight for clinically oriented aspects of patient care within the Respiratory Therapy Department.
  • Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate educational programs for respiratory care staff.
  • Coordinate onboarding, orientation, competency validation, and ongoing professional development for co-workers.
  • Assist with Quality Management initiatives, performance improvement projects, and department-specific quality indicators.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for respiratory therapy staff.
  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate training programs and continuing education opportunities.
  • Collaborate with department leadership to identify educational needs and implement improvement strategies.
  • Support evidence-based practice and promote patient safety initiatives.
  • Maintain required records, reports, competencies, and educational documentation.
  • Demonstrate behaviors consistent with Mercy's Mission, Values, and Mercy Service Standards.
Minimum QualificationsEducation
  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program required.
  • Bachelor of Science degree required or active enrollment in an accredited bachelor's degree program.
  • Ten (10) years of Critical Care experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
Licensure
  • Must meet all applicable state licensure requirements for Respiratory Therapy.
Experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of critical care and/or respiratory therapy teaching experience.
Certifications
  • ACLS certification required or obtained within six (6) months of hire.
  • Current NRP and PALS certifications required for individuals working in Neonatal and/or Pediatric Critical Care areas.
  • ECMO-trained or completion of ECMO training program within six (6) months of hire.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong clinical assessment and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership, teaching, and mentoring abilities.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies and regulatory standards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and general computer systems.
  • Ability to effectively educate, motivate, and develop staff members.
Patient Population Competencies

The Education Coordinator must demonstrate competency in assessing, treating, and caring for patients based on age-specific needs, including:

  • Adolescent patients
  • Adult patients
  • Geriatric patients
Preferred QualificationsEducation
  • Master's Degree in a related healthcare, education, or leadership field.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to push, pull, and grip up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to pinch up to 10 pounds.
  • Must be capable of meeting the physical demands associated with a clinical respiratory care environment.
