Position Summary

The Resin Market Analyst and Writer will research, analyze, and explain developments across polyethylene, polypropylene, and related petrochemical markets. The analyst will combine market data, trading desk observations, industry interviews, and independent research to produce accurate daily and weekly coverage. This role requires sound market judgment and the writing ability to turn complex price, supply, demand, feedstock, logistics, and trade information into clear analysis for industry professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor North American polyethylene and polypropylene spot pricing, bids and offers, transaction activity, availability, inventories, and contract market developments.

Track the upstream and external factors that affect resin markets, including ethylene, propylene, natural gas liquids, energy prices, operating rates, plant outages, imports and exports, freight, weather, trade policy, and macroeconomic conditions.

Develop and maintain trusted sources among producers, distributors, traders, brokers, processors, converters, buyers, and other industry participants.

Conduct interviews, verify market information, reconcile conflicting reports, and protect source and commercial confidentiality.

Write and edit timely daily commentary, weekly market reports, news alerts, data explanations, and longer-form analysis for a professional audience.

Explain why markets moved and what current developments may mean, while clearly distinguishing confirmed facts, analysis, and forward-looking judgment.

Work closely with the trading desk to incorporate observable physical-market activity into coverage without disclosing confidential transaction details.

Analyze historical and current data, identify meaningful trends, and help present findings through charts, tables, dashboards, webinars, and client discussions.

Maintain a reliable editorial calendar and consistently meet recurring publication deadlines.

Review published work for accuracy, clarity, consistency, grammar, and appropriate attribution.

Qualifications

Professional experience as a market analyst, price reporter, commodity journalist, industry researcher, consultant, resin trader, polymer salesperson, or resin procurement professional.

Strong knowledge of plastic resin or petrochemical markets. Direct experience with polyethylene or polypropylene is strongly preferred.

Excellent research, interviewing, writing, and editing skills, with the ability to explain technical and commercial subjects in direct language.

Ability to interpret price series, supply and demand data, production information, operating rates, trade flows, and other market indicators.

Sound source judgment and a clear understanding of verification, confidentiality, attribution, and the difference between fact and analysis.

Proficiency with spreadsheets and standard business software. Experience with data visualization or market intelligence platforms is useful.

A bachelor's degree in journalism, economics, business, finance, chemistry, engineering, supply chain, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent directly relevant experience will be considered.

Remote Candidate Requirements

Candidates seeking a fully remote arrangement should demonstrate direct resin or commodity market knowledge, a record of producing accurate professional analysis or published coverage, and the ability to develop sources and meet deadlines with limited supervision. Remote eligibility will be evaluated individually based on the depth and relevance of that experience.

Writing Samples

Published writing samples are required. Samples should demonstrate market analysis, business or commodity reporting, data interpretation, or another form of professional analytical writing. Applicants whose work is confidential may submit an appropriately redacted sample or discuss another way to demonstrate writing ability.
