Thomas & Hutton is currently seeking an experienced Structural Engineer in Savannah, GA. The ideal candidate will be a licensed civil/structural engineer or have the ability to obtain license within one year. They shall have a background in the analysis and design of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures consisting of Bridge, Building, and Site Structural design. Experience in Marine Structural design and knowledge of permitting in the Southeast, coastal environment is a plus.  Successful candidates will be production oriented with the ability to create construction plans using CAD. The candidate shall have knowledge of construction industry practices and be capable of working with clients, regulatory agencies, building officials, contractors and members of the Structural Department. 
 
The ideal candidate will be expected to be involved with the concept planning, assessments, design and construction administration of a large variety of structures for both internal and external clients, public and private. Markets for structural services include industrial, commercial, municipal, marine, institutional, residential and energy. Structures may include, but are not limited to, treatment plants, marinas, bulkheads, piers, wharves, bridges, buildings, drainage and water control structures, pump stations, monuments, specialty equipment foundations, and erosion control solutions.  Design and analysis of concrete, wood, structural steel, cold formed steel, masonry, aluminum, and composite materials will be required. 
 
This position requires strong technical skills as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.  This role requires regular interaction with other structural engineers, our clients, other senior level managers within the firm, subconsultants and contractors. 
Typical Duties
  • Perform engineering calculations and preparation of reports, feasibility studies, permit applications, construction plans and specifications.
  • Visit clients, jobsites and consultant offices as needed to support project needs. 
  • Interface with other disciplines and consultants as needed.
  • Prepare, coordinate and review work plans prepared in CAD
  • Perform administration and coordination of structural items during construction.
  • Work in team environment.
  • Efficiently communicate and coordinate efforts and ideas.
  • Handle design activities for multiple clients simultaneously.
  • Actively participates in civic and professional organizations.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering. Registered Professional Engineer or ability to obtain license within 1 year
 
Experience: 3+ years experience in design of structures 
 
Skills
  • Ability to work a regular schedule of 7:30AM to 5:30PM Mondays - Thursdays, 7:30am to 11:30AM on Fridays, and occasionally at night and on the weekends.
  • A successful track record of design of projects
  • Efficient work ethic to complete tasks on time and within budgets
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of construction industry and ability to work with Contractors
  • Ability to perform field work for assessments and construction observation in a variety of environments.
  • Ability to work alone and within team
  • Experienced in Private and Public sector projects
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCad
  • Proficiency in RISA, SAP2000, RAM or other finite element software
