Job description

ABOUT US: Schaumburg Park District is an award-winning parks and recreation agency that provides its 80,000 residents with a wide variety of recreational programs, classes, and events as well as facilities, parks and open spaces! Our Cultural Arts Department is home to our outstanding theatre program which hosts various productions throughout the year.


JOB SUMMARY: The Choreographer is primarily responsible for creating and teaching dynamic and engaging dance routines that enhance the storytelling and capture the spirit of the musical. The Choreographer collaborates with the director to develop the choreography that complements the overall vision of the production. The production this Choreographer will start with is our community production of Mary Poppins, which will feature actors aged 7 and older.

LOCATION: Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Rd., Schaumburg, IL

QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidates should have proven experience as a choreographer, preferably in musical theater productions. Strong knowledge of various dance styles, including jazz, tap, and musical theater dance, is required. Our Choreographer must have strong organizational and communication skills. They should be dependable and able to work in a time-sensitive environment. Please be prepared to provide a portfolio or reel showcasing previous choreography work prior to an interview, if selected.

SCHEDULING & PAY: This is a part-time position with varying hours depending on rehearsals and performance schedules, with primarily evening work. Rehearsals take place on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings. The candidate must also be available for auditions, callbacks, tech, and performances. Auditions will be on September 9th, callbacks on September 10th, and tech on November 28th - December 3rd. Performances will be on December 4th, 5th, and 6th. The pay for this position is $18.00-$20.00/hour, depending on qualifications.
