Position Summary:

The primary role of the Resident Assistant is to assist, sustain, and nurture the residents that live on Enhanced Living. They provide assistance with activities of daily living, care of the resident's environment, and meet other needs as required. The goal of the work of the resident assistant is to promote a high quality of life for the residents. The resident assistant works as a member of a team that seeks to achieve a homelike setting while maintaining excellence in all areas of care.

In addition, the resident assistant will demonstrate a strong commitment to the philosophy and mission of Hebrew SeniorLife and recognize residents' dignity and choice in all aspects of daily life. They are an active participant in the programs, work, and social environment of Enhanced Living, and strive to make every resident encounter into a positive and meaningful experience and opportunity, while ensuring the provision of safe and efficient quality care and support.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support residents in living their best lives each day and in meeting their Vitalize 360 goals
  • Recognize and respond to the needs of the residents and families
  • Recognize and communicate changes in the resident's condition to the appropriate team member
  • Facilitate life enrichment activities and programs that encourage resident engagement, and engage residents individually who do not wish to attend group programs
  • Remind and encourage residents to attend programs based on their Vitalize 360 goals
  • *Adhere to Safe Patient Handling practices, i.e. maintain a no manual lift environment
  • Participate in Quality Improvement programs
  • *Assist residents with all aspects of personal care as indicated in the care plans.
  • *Document pertinent information regarding care delivered in the designated areas of the resident's electronic medical record
  • Report accidents and incidents as they occur
  • Report any observed or suspected resident abuse immediately
  • Observe and report skin integrity
  • Participate in daily report team and care planning meetings as needed
  • * Follow infection control practices
  • Attend and participate in ongoing training and educational classes
  • *Maintain confidentiality and privacy of the resident according to HIPPA regulations
  • *Communicate effectively with peers, other team members, residents and families
  • Maintain cleanliness of the resident's apartment and common program areas
  • Prepare, serve, and clean up after meals, snacks, and programs
  • Participate in floor meetings
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Demonstrate the understanding that the residents' medical needs, though important, are not a predictor of the entire needs of the resident
  • Work to make Enhanced Living more home-like and less institutional

Qualifications:

  • Fluent English skills required
  • Computer literacy required
  • Flexibility and ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Must have an optimistic and positive demeanor, excellent oral and written communication skills, good intuition and able to adapt to changing priorities and display good, sound judgment with a sense of humor
  • Must be motivated to learn and flexible to change
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in an environment working with the elderly and/or disabled, preferably in the home care setting
  • Employee must successfully pass the CORI check as requested by Orchard Cove

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Ability to move around the EL area
  • Ability to occasionally move items up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to push an occupied wheelchair
