What is a reseller?

A Reseller job involves purchasing products or services from a supplier or manufacturer and then selling them to customers at a profit. Resellers can operate in various industries, including electronics, fashion, and software. They often manage inventory, set pricing, and market products through online platforms or physical stores. Some resellers work independently, while others collaborate with a company as an authorized distributor. Success in this role requires strong sales, marketing, and customer service skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a reseller?

To thrive as a Reseller, you need strong sales acumen, market research skills, and knowledge of inventory management, often gained through experience in sales or e-commerce. Familiarity with e-commerce platforms, CRM systems, and online payment solutions is typically necessary. Exceptional negotiation, networking, and customer service skills help build lasting relationships with clients and suppliers. These capabilities enable Resellers to source competitively, manage transactions efficiently, and adapt to changing market demands for business growth.

What are the typical challenges faced by resellers, and how can they be addressed?

Resellers often encounter challenges such as fluctuating market prices, maintaining a reliable supply chain, and handling customer expectations regarding product quality and delivery times. To address these issues, effective Resellers build strong relationships with trusted suppliers, stay updated on market trends, and implement robust inventory management practices. Clear communication with clients about product details and delivery schedules also helps establish trust and minimize misunderstandings. By proactively addressing these common hurdles, Resellers can enhance their reputation, boost customer satisfaction, and grow their business.

How do you become a reseller?

To become a reseller, you typically need to choose a product or service to sell, establish a relationship with the supplier or manufacturer, and obtain the necessary authorization or reseller agreement. Resellers often require basic sales skills, knowledge of the products, and may need to meet certain sales targets or certifications depending on the industry. Setting up an online or physical sales platform is also common to reach customers effectively.

Is reselling a good career?

Reselling can be a viable career for individuals who have strong sales skills, market knowledge, and the ability to source products at low cost. Success often depends on understanding supply and demand, managing inventory, and using online platforms or marketplaces effectively. It can offer flexible hours but may require significant effort to build a profitable business.

  • 1-3 years of experience in sales operations, deal desk, contracts administration, order management, legal operations, customer operations, or a similar coordination role
  • Experience preparing or administering quotes, contracts, SOWs, order forms, renewals, amendments, change orders, or electronic-signature workflows
  • Strong organization, follow-through, communication, and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce or another CRM and proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace

What would make you stand out:

  • Experience with CPQ, contract lifecycle management, document repositories, or electronic-signature tools
  • Familiarity with managed services, professional-services scoping, AWS/Azure/GCP resale or marketplace programs, recurring services, or usage-based billing
  • Exposure to direct, channel, or partner-led B2B technology sales and professional-services SOW review

What success looks like:

  • Deals progress with fewer administrative delays and complete approvals, signatures, and CRM records
  • Quotes, contracts, and SOWs are accurate and consistent across documents
  • Professional-services scope is complete, internally approved, executable by Delivery, and handed off clearly to Finance and Customer Success

What we offer:

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • A competitive compensation package
  • Tons of opportunities for career growth
  • Generous vacation (we want you to use it!)
  • A culture that values community involvement and giving back
