Are you a good match?
The ideal candidate for this role will have a Masters degree in Information Science or Archives and Preservation with at least 5 years experience in similar projects. You will have the ability to read handwritten script/cursive is required, as well as have the ability to move heavy boxes. You will be self-motivated with excellent time management and organizational skills with accurate attention to detail, and have the ability to handle multiple project simultaneously. The candidate will be proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite. Interest and experience in art history a plus, and French language skills strongly preferred. The ability to travel locally as needed.
What are we expecting from you?
The archivist helps to elaborate the general inventory, collect, preserve, communicate, and enhance the archives collection. Their main mission is to identify, classify, and preserve the historical archives; and organize the documentary production of the company within the framework of the records management (management of the current and intermediate archives). They will report to the Director, Archives & Heritage and be based in New York City.
In this role, you will:
Responsibilities:
Manage and enhance the digital archives
  • Maintain the growing digital archives and ensure the long-term stability and security of the files
  • Implement a digital preservation system
  • Create a precise report on the volume of the digital archives
  • Assess the files types and storage usage regularly
  • Working with the Collections Archivist, identify physical archive collections that need to be digitized
  • Oversee digitization projects by providing instructions on file naming and handling instructions to the vendor
  • Be the point of contact for the vendor on all questions that arise from the digitization process
  • Quality control and rename digital file as needed
  • Work with HQ Archives Department to upload approved U.S. digital archives into database
  • Work on creating and updating the metadata for digital archives

Enhance the archives
  • Write finding aids using a controlled vocabulary thesaurus in collaboration with local and HQ Archives team
  • Ensure preservation conditions and the collection's integrity are respected

Research & Transmission
  • Work closely with HQ Archives team on research requests
  • Independently research areas within the U.S. archives which may be of interest to the general history of the Maison
  • Assist in tracking research requests for internal statistics
  • Give internal presentations on the archive collections and archival methodologies used

Records Management
  • Collect digital born documents from various departments of the Maison in collaboration with HQ Archives team
