Clinical Research Visual Acuity Examiner / BCVA Technician

Ready to take your ophthalmic experience into the exciting world of clinical research?

Retina Group of New England is looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented Visual Acuity Examiner / BCVA Technician to join our growing Clinical Research team.

This is a unique opportunity for someone with experience in ophthalmology, optometry, vision testing, or patient care who wants to expand their skills and become an important part of clinical trials helping advance the future of retinal care.

What You'll Do

As our Visual Acuity Examiner / BCVA Technician, you will work directly with clinical trial patients and our Research team, performing highly standardized vision testing according to study protocols.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform manifest refraction and Best Corrected Visual Acuity (BCVA) testing using loose lenses
  • Conduct specialized testing including low-luminance visual acuity, speed reading, contrast sensitivity, and color vision
  • Perform auto-refraction
  • Become familiar with the vision requirements, protocols, and schedules for assigned clinical trials
  • Obtain and maintain required clinical trial/sponsor certifications
  • Ensure visual acuity lanes remain properly certified and compliant with study requirements
  • Maintain visual acuity equipment, lenses, charts, and testing materials
  • Maintain accurate equipment certification records and required logs
  • Work closely with our Clinical Research team to ensure accurate, consistent, high-quality study data
  • Assist with additional research projects and responsibilities as needed

Who We're Looking For

We'd love to meet someone who has some previous ophthalmic, optometric, visual acuity, clinical research, or patient-care experience and is excited to continue learning.

Previous experience with refraction, visual acuity testing, ophthalmic assisting/technician work, or clinical research is strongly preferred, but we are willing to provide significant on-the-job training for the right candidate.
