The Husbandry and Operations Manager leads the daily management of the animal care staff and oversight of a Comparative Medicine Core facility.

Location: Tampa, FL (Speros Moffitt Discovery and Innovation Institute)

As the Husbandry Operations Manager, you will play a pivotal role in our mission-driven team, where your leadership directly impacts the groundbreaking work that saves lives and supports patients and their families.

The Opportunity

The Husbandry Operations Manager leads the daily management of animal care staff and provides comprehensive oversight of a Comparative Medicine Core facility. You will be responsible for fostering a customer-centric environment, ensuring regulatory excellence, and managing a diverse team of supervisors and technicians.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facility Oversight: Manage daily operations, including per diem billing, SOP development, equipment/supply procurement, and coordination of space to meet the needs of research faculty.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Direct supervision of Husbandry and Cage Wash Supervisors; oversight of indirect reports ranging from Associate to Senior Research Technicians.
  • Regulatory Excellence: Maintain facility compliance with USDA Animal Welfare Act and the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals; lead bi-annual IACUC inspections.
  • Operational Excellence: Oversee animal census, facility maintenance, and sanitation records while ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business or Animal Science. (Master's in Laboratory Animal Science preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years direct research animal care experience, including three (3) years of direct supervisory experience. Alternative experience pathways (Associates or HS Diploma) are considered based on additional years of service.
  • Certifications: LAT required. LATG certification must be obtained within 2 years of hire. Must enroll in the CMAR program within 18 months of start date.
  • Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of research animal husbandry, diets, rodent colony management, and breeding colony management.

Salary Range

$82,934.80 - $126,427.60

Salary ranges posted for this position represent the expected base pay range for the role. Actual compensation may vary based on location and a variety of job-related factors, including experience, skills, education, and internal equity among Team Members in similar positions.
