ISS STOXX is seeking a Senior Tax Operations Associate to support the U.S. direct tax function within the North America Finance Team, with periodic support of indirect tax activities. Based in Rockville, Maryland, this role will report to the North American Tax Manager and collaborate closely with the global ISS STOXX Tax Team. The Senior Tax Operations Associate will assist with tax reporting, tax provision support, tax compliance activities, and tax filings across US and Canadian legal entities.
Responsibilities:
Tax Support:
  • Assist with preparation and coordination of U.S. federal, state, and local income tax workpapers including extensions and estimated payments.
  • Support quarterly and annual U.S. income tax provision processes by gathering data, preparing workpapers, and validating inputs.
  • Perform monthly income tax reconciliations and assist with related tax provision journal entries.
  • Maintain the tax calendar for U.S. direct tax filings and ensure timely and accurate submissions.
  • Assist with U.S. income tax audits by coordinating with external advisors, collecting documentation, and supporting issue resolution.
  • Support tax planning initiatives and ad-hoc U.S. income tax analysis as needed.
  • Provide periodic backup support for indirect tax filings, including U.S. sales and use tax and Canadian GST/HST.

Tax Operations, Compliance, and Collaboration:
  • Assist in maintaining and updating tax policies, procedures, and process documentation.
  • Monitor changes in U.S. tax laws and support preliminary impact assessments.
  • Conduct tax research and summarize findings for internal stakeholders.
  • Support tax payment processing and tracking.
  • Collaborate with Accounting, Finance, and other cross-functional teams on tax-related matters.
  • Maintain accurate, well-organized, and audit-ready tax records.

Requirements:
  • 3-6 years of experience primarily focused on U.S. direct income tax, with preference for public accounting experience (Big 4, national, or regional firm).
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. federal and multistate income tax compliance and income tax provisions.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, particularly Excel.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • CPA or CPA-eligible.
  • Experience supporting U.S. GAAP income tax provisions.
  • Experience with tax or ERP systems such as SAP and/or Vertex.
  • Experience supporting tax audits.
  • Interest in progressing into broader or more senior tax roles within an in-house corporate tax function.

Location: Rockville, MD: Located in the vibrant King Farm community, convenient access to transit (1 mile from Shady Grove Red Line), dining, green spaces with free parking, and access to an onsite gym.
Base salary: The Rockville, MD expected base pay range is $80,000- $95,000 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and level of education.
The role is bonus or sales incentive eligible.
