Shift/Hours/Location: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, onsite, Milwaukie, Oregon (Please note, because this is an intern position, we would not offer the following benefits: medical, vision, and dental insurance benefits)

WHAT YOU WILL BE WORKING ON

  • Assist in the development and optimization of techniques for electrochemical analysis.
  • Aid in the collection of electrochemical data using techniques such as polarization tests, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and cyclic voltammetry to support the characterization of materials.
  • Assist in processing and analyzing electrochemical data.
  • Contribute to the development of new products and the modification of existing products for commercial applications.
  • Participate in research driven by customer needs, market trends, or emerging technologies.
  • Perform hands-on laboratory experiments using established good laboratory practices (GLP) to meet project objectives.
  • Follow all safety procedures and regulations to maintain a safe laboratory environment.
  • Effectively communicate project ideas, goals, status, and results to internal technical and managerial teams.
  • Prepare and present summary reports for internal discussion.
  • Maintain an accurate and detailed laboratory notebook with observations and data, supporting reproducibility and intellectual property development.
  • Work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Receive guidance and direction from supervisors or senior scientists to establish project priorities and requirements.
  • Uphold all MLI policies and “MLI Code of Conduct.”
  • Strict compliance with Environmental and Safety regulations.
  • Compliance and individual accountability with the MLI Quality System and ISO Registration is required.  It is the employee’s commitment to ensure that the Company’s actual practices and procedures are exercised as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support and sustain a high performing team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related discipline such as biology or physics.
  • Working towards a Master of Science in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related discipline such as biology or physics is desired.
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills including the demonstrated ability to read and implement written work procedures such as MLI Standard Operating Procedures and published standard methods such as ASTM methods, and chemical literature with minimal direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Manage multiple priorities receiving direction from a supervisor or Senior Scientist(s) to establish priorities and requirements.
    • Read, understand, and apply information in Material Safety Data Sheets to ensure safe handling and use of chemicals and laboratory apparatus. 
    • Follow written and verbal instructions in English.
    • Manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously to meet established deadlines.
    • Work as a team and/or independently.
    • Perform tasks with attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Background in electrochemistry desirable.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Duties are generally performed indoors in an office/lab and high purity manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The employee may work in the presence of fumes or airborne particles, hot, toxic, or corrosive chemicals, water, liquids, and electrical equipment.   When working in the presence of safety hazards, the employee is expected to follow company safety rules and use proper personal protective equipment such as: respirator, hardhat, protective clothing, safety glasses, safety footwear, and full leather shoes, etc.
