Job description

Summary:
The Research Coordinator provides administrative and clinical support for the research department by coordinating and implementing research protocols. This role may be performed in outpatient research clinics and/or inpatient units involving research-related efforts. Key role contributions include assessing feasibility for study protocols, implementing and coordinating research protocols using both professional and clinical skills, which may require additional specialized training.
Responsibilities:
  • Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Screens patients for protocol eligibility and participation in research.
  • Adheres to all regulatory policies and procedures for consenting patients for research studies.
  • May participate/coordinate and monitor research treatment interventions in collaboration with the PI/ physician.
  • Provides patient education related to study procedures.
  • Maintains consistency with Administrative and Departmental policies with appropriate behavior, dress, attitude, attendance, confidentiality, professionalism, and reliability.
  • Coordinates and/or supports IRB submission activities by implementing established procedures for the preparation, review, and processing of research protocols, consent forms, and IRB application materials, as required.
  • Conducts all job responsibilities in a manner that protects patient privacy and confidentiality, ensuring that protected health information is accessed, discussed, or disclosed only when necessary to perform assigned duties.
  • Performs laboratory-based research support activities, including the collection, de-identification, processing, and shipment of biospecimens and related data in accordance with established research protocols.
  • Supports study data management by collecting, entering, and updating participant and study information within internal tracking systems and external sponsor databases, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant documentation of screening, enrollment, study progress, and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicates timely and professionally with study sponsors, team members, and with members outside of the research department.
  • Coordinates protocol-required clinical, pharmacy, laboratory, medication management, and all other protocol-related research activities in accordance with study, sponsor, and institutional requirements.
  • Prepare reports as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
Education/Skills
  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's degree preferred, such as: MLS, CLS, LVN/LPN, Biology, Research, or other science/health related field
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required

Experience
  • 1 - 2 years of applicable experience in a science-based field (i.e., lab tech, phlebotomy, vet tech, LVN/LPN, CMA) required
  • Previous experience in research preferred
  • Previous experience with phlebotomy preferred
  • Previous experience with EMR systems such as EPIC preferred

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
  • Active licensure and/or certification in the applicable area of practice may be required based on the position, department, or assigned duties, with no disciplinary or punitive restrictions and in accordance with applicable state and regulatory requirements. Examples include, but are not limited to:
    • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by ASCP or AMT
    • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by ASCP or AMT
    • Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by LSBME (if in Louisiana)
    • LVN/LPN in the state of practice

In accordance with the CHRISTUS Health License, Certification and Registration Verification Policy, all Associates are required to obtain the required certifications for their respective positions within the designated time frame.
