Title
Summer Astrophysics Research Assistant
Position Description
BSU's Physics Photonics and Optical Engineering department is looking for an Astrophysics Research Assistant to work over the summer.
In this role, you will be expected to conduct astrophysics research by:
  • accessing data in online archives
  • using python to analyze astronomical data
  • reading scientific papers and conducting literature reviews
  • attending weekly meetings
  • writing weekly reports that document the work accomplished
  • writing a final report that describes research project results

Eligibility requirements:
Must be a Bridgewater State University undergraduate student registered for a minimum of six credits for the Fall 2026 semester.
Preferred Qualifications
The applicant should possess:
  • knowledge of astronomical concepts, such as those covered in PHYS 308
  • basic python programming experience
  • basic computer skills
  • critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • excellent time management skills
  • attention to detail
