Job description

Lone Star Bakery, Inc. is looking for a R&D Director to lead the innovation, R&D team, and technical strategies by defining product road maps and overseeing the entire lifecycle of new technologies.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create long-term technical direction, align R&D goals with business objectives, and evaluate competitor positioning .
  • Presents concepts and products for internal and external accounts on an ongoing basis.
  • Reviews and analyzes projects and proposals submitted to determine feasibility and appropriate delegation.
  • Serves as a resource for general and technical product information to Quality Assurance, Productions, Purchasing, and Sales teams.
  • Maximizes productivity of research and development department utilizing core primary objectives: process improvement, new development, and sample fulfillment.
  • Solicits information regarding current trends and future product requirements to collectively address new opportunities.
  • Fosters and utilizes the exchange of technical expertise with outside suppliers and associations.
  • Creates formulas to match existing specifications and/or products.
  • Promotes growth, education, and opportunity throughout the department and the company.
  • Manages R&D team and assigns daily duties and supervisors in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws including assisting with hiring team members.
  • Represents organization with major customers, shareholder, and the public.
  • Maintains equipment and laboratory in accordance with professional decorum.
  • Communicates regularly with upper management regarding status updates of projects and customer sample development.
  • Coordinates with other departments as needed to complete project tasks and ensures all departments have applicable information about projects.
Job Requirements, Education, & Certifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in related field(s)
  • Baking-related experience and/or training; or combination of 10+ years education and experience.
  • A strong desire to be a significant contributor to a fast paced growth strategy.
  • Strong written and verbal communicator with strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • A strategic thinker with strong problem solving and analytical skills.
