Job description

The Center for Dialogue & Pluralism (CDP; formerly the Intergroup Dialogue Project) reports directly to the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education. The center's core mission is to collaborate with the Cornell academic community to advance intentional engagement across, and about, differences as an essential democratic practice. Leveraging the diversity of knowledge, perspectives, and experiences at the university, CDP's educational work focuses on building capacity in four key areas: human connection, social and personal identities, intentional communication, and collaborative change. The Opportunity
Reporting to and working closely with the Associate Director/Senior Lecturer in the Center for Dialogue and Pluralism (CDP), the Research Aide will contribute to qualitative and quantitative projects through data preparation and basic analyses, in addition to supporting the dissemination of research and assessment findings.
CDP applies both qualitative and quantitative research methods in an effort to produce a thorough analysis of our work. We use surveys, interviews, and focus groups to collect data from undergraduate, professional student, staff, and faculty participants in our programs.
This is a 1-year term position (with the possibility of renewal) with a start date no later than July 27, 2026.
The position is 39 hours/week onsite with occasional, pre-planned evenings and weekends to lead and/or assist with specific projects. Some hybrid activities are possible, but the employee will be expected to be on campus regularly. Fully remote work is not available for this position.
Responsibilities of the position include:
  • Collaborating with principal investigator in development of project reports, publications, and conference presentations/posters
  • Contributing to content about research and assessment findings for CDP's website, social media, newsletter, and other digital communications
  • Preparing qualitative data (e.g., interview transcripts, focus group recordings) for analysis
  • Participating in the development of coding schemes to perform qualitative data analysis
  • Assisting with coding of existing qualitative data

What We Need

Associates' degree and at least two years' experience conducting or contributing to human subjects research (can include research experiences in college courses), or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Commitment to ethical conduct in research and reporting
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a research team
  • Proven ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines

  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
