Requirements Manager information

What is a requirements manager?

Requirements managers are professionals responsible for gathering, documenting, analyzing, and maintaining the requirements of a project or system throughout its lifecycle. They work closely with stakeholders to ensure that all needs and expectations are accurately captured and communicated to the development team. Their role is critical in minimizing misunderstandings, reducing project risks, and ensuring that the final deliverable meets both business objectives and user needs.

What is the difference between Requirements Manager vs Business Analyst?

Employer & Industry UsageUsed in large organizations, IT, engineering, and software developmentCommon in IT, finance, healthcare, and consulting sectors

The Requirements Manager and Business Analyst roles share similar credentials and often work within the same industries. However, the Requirements Manager primarily oversees the requirements process at a higher level, coordinating across projects, while the Business Analyst focuses on gathering and analyzing specific business needs. Both roles are essential for successful project delivery but differ in scope and responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a requirements manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Requirements Manager, you need strong analytical skills, expertise in requirements elicitation, and a background in business analysis or systems engineering, often supported by a relevant degree or certification like CBAP or PMI-PBA. Familiarity with requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS, Jama Connect, or Jira is typically expected. Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and attention to detail are crucial soft skills for excelling in this role. These capabilities ensure that project requirements are accurately captured, managed, and communicated, leading to successful project outcomes and stakeholder satisfaction.

What is an example of requirements management?

Requirements management involves systematically documenting, analyzing, and tracking project requirements throughout the project lifecycle. For a Requirements Manager, this includes using tools like requirements traceability matrices and ensuring stakeholder needs are accurately captured and maintained to guide project development and testing.

How does a requirements manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project lifecycle?

A Requirements Manager works closely with cross-functional teams such as project managers, developers, testers, and business analysts to ensure that all project requirements are well-understood, documented, and implemented. They facilitate communication between stakeholders to clarify expectations, manage changes to requirements, and resolve conflicts. Regular meetings, requirement workshops, and continuous feedback loops are common practices to maintain alignment and address any issues early on. This collaborative approach helps ensure that the final deliverables meet business needs and project goals.

Job description

What you'll do

At Scout Motors, you don't just design vehicles- you shape the future of the road. Our Engineering team is where bold ideas meet rigorous execution, building machines that are as durable and capable as the people who drive them. You'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with brilliant minds across disciplines, turning complex challenges into elegant, scalable solutions that meet the highest standards of safety, performance, and user experience. This is a place where your fingerprints are found on metal - where what you design gets built, driven, and remembered. If you're hungry to engineer something that matters, Scout Motors is where that ambition finds its highest gear.ย

Asย HiLย and Requirements Coordinator - Drive Systems, you willย combine two critical responsibilitiesย in one role:ย

  1. Coordinating all HardwareintheLoop (HiL) activitiesย for BEV and REEV drivesystem componentsย
  1. Owning the requirements and testcase management processesย for the drive system, ensuring quality, maturity, and transparency across development phasesย

This role is central to ensuring functional correctness, software quality, and release readiness for the Scout drive system. Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

HiLย Coordination Responsibilitiesย

  • Coordinate allย HiLย activitiesย within the drive system for BEV and REEV components, acting as the central interface between software development, function owners, calibration, testing, and systems engineering teamsย
  • Plan, steer, and superviseย HiLย test execution, ensuring test environments, configurations, software builds, and test content are available and aligned with program prioritiesย
  • Coordinate theย HiLย execution team responsible for test implementation and execution, providing clear scope, priorities, test objectives, and acceptance criteriaย
This role focuses on coordination and governance rather than handson test development or scripting.ย
  • Define and alignย HiLย test strategiesย for drivesystem functions, covering operating strategies, diagnostics, fault reactions, degraded modes, and systemlevel integration behaviorย
  • Trackย HiLย execution progress, manage dependencies, identify risks or bottlenecks, and drive timely resolution in collaboration with function and validation stakeholdersย
  • Ensureย HiLย activities are aligned across prototype and serial development phases, supporting integration milestones, validation reviews, and software release readinessย

Requirements & TestCase Coordination Responsibilitiesย

  • Own and oversee drivesystem requirements management, including:ย
  • Reviewing completeness, clarity, and consistency of functional and system requirementsย
  • Ensuring requirements follow defined development processes and quality standardsย
  • Tracking requirement maturity, changes, and status throughout developmentย
  • Coordinate and control drivesystem testcase management, ensuring:ย
  • Test cases are correctly derived from requirements and acceptance criteriaย
  • Coverage, execution status, and results are monitored acrossย HiLย activitiesย
  • Traceability is maintained between requirements, test cases, and validation outcomesย
  • Assess and monitor the quality of the underlying processesย for requirements and testcase management, identifying gaps, risks, or inconsistencies and driving corrective actionsย
  • Provide structured and transparentย status reportingย onย HiLย progress, requirements maturity, and testcase coverage to support technical and program decision makingย

CrossFunctional Collaboration & Supportย

  • Liaise closely with function development, calibration, systems architecture, and validation teams to align priorities, resolve issues, and support integration decisionsย
  • Support technical discussions by reviewing test results, contributing to rootcause analysis, and coordinating followup testing or fixesย
  • Coordinate software and function readiness in support of prototype builds, validation phases, and release milestonesย
  • Support additional related tasks and activities required to ensure robust drivesystem validation and timely deliveryย

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Novi, Michigan.
  • This role requires 4-5 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events.ย
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.
What you'll bringย

We expect all Scout employees to have integrity, curiosity, resourcefulness, and strive to exhibit a positive attitude, as well as a growth mindset. You'll be comfortable with change and flexible in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. You'll take a collaborative approach to achieve ambitious goals. Here's what else you'll bring:ย

  • Bachelor's orย Master's degree in Engineering, Technology, IT Systems, or Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university; preferably Electrical, Controls, or Automotive Engineeringย
  • 8+ years of experienceย in automotive concept or serial development, with priorย handsonย experience inย HiLย test development, scripting, or execution earlier in the careerย
  • Strong practical understanding ofย HiLย architectures, test implementation, automation concepts, and execution workflows, enabling effective coordination and technical judgmentย
(Current role focus is on coordination, oversight, and process governance rather than handson development.)ย
  • Solid understanding ofย requirements engineering and testcase management, including traceability, maturity tracking, and process qualityย
  • Experience working within system engineering, integration, validation, and software release processesย
  • Proven coordination and projectsteering skills, with the ability to manage execution performed by other teamsย
  • Structured, qualityfocused mindset with strong analytical and problemsolving skillsย
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across crossfunctional and global teamsย
