Job description

SEnergy is seeking an analytical Electrical Engineer with a high attention to detail and 5 or more years of experience in Distribution Engineering for the Power Delivery Market.
The position is located at our Boerne office and may require some overnight travel to project sites.
The duties and responsibilities of the Sr. Distribution Planning Engineer consists of, but are not limited to, the following:
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Participate from start to finish for Two-Year Construction Work Plans and Long-Range Plans. Including preparation of drawings, visual aids, reports, engineering studies, databases, analysis studies, diagram maps, system improvements, and amendments. Assist in scheduling and budgeting requirements for planning projects.
  • Preparation of Environmental Reports from start to finish including managing schedules, Client communication, mitigation measures, environmental reporting, board reporting and final submissions to RUS.
  • Prepare various studies for Distribution and Substation departments including system sectionalizing studies, device coordination and settings, fault location settings for relays.
  • Prepare Load Forecast Studies.
  • Review monthly files and oversee monthly updating of system load data by administrative staff. Monthly reports to include: KVA peak summary, min/max voltmeter, voltage regulator operations, capacitor operations and monthly substation
  • Assist with supporting analysis for CCN applications.
  • Oversee the specifications and procurement of high voltage equipment, when required.
  • Prepare service supply plans for new consumer and subdivisions, including oil/gas development.
  • Prepare Arc Flash Assessments. Provide recommendations to the Client with regard to safe working distances, PPE and best practices for operating equipment.
  • Coordinate with field personnel as needed to gain information or complete projects.
  • Prepare accurate proposal(s) for the Client, in a timely manner; ensure pricing is accurate and maintain established margins, reviewing any risks with Division Manager; present proposal to Client when required

Client facing requirements:
  • Represent SEnergy and Client when meeting with other stakeholders including property owners, other engineering firms or construction services.
  • Effectively communicate with Client(s) in a timely manner for assigned projects, representing SEnergy; all Client inquiries should have a response back to Client within 48 hours of request
  • Ensure adherence to Client standards to develop detailed scope and engineering plans for projects. Prepare scope of work and budget to be presented to Management.
  • Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with key Client personnel with whom project work is interfaced with.
  • Acts as liaison between Clients and project team members, such as professional engineers, as required.

Project Management requirements (for assigned projects):
  • Project management from start to finish, for assigned planning projects, managing all changes for scope of work that may arise.
  • Quality control of produced documents and work for assigned staff.
  • Creates the work breakdown structure that includes discrete tasks with hours that are assignable to an individual and works with divisional Manager to assign resources to each discrete task.
  • Develop timeline, coordinate and work with Manager to assign tasks to staff and manage timeline until project completion while staying ahead and communicating any delays that are foreseeable to mitigate risks
  • Conduct project kick-off meetings and then schedule and hold project team meetings at established frequency to maintain member accountability and keep service timeline on track.
  • Resolve schedule and resource conflicts by collaborating and coordinating with division managers and project managers across the organization.
  • Be responsive and eliminate logjams that the project team may experience.

Other requirements:
  • Serves as technical specialist for the division on advanced concepts, principles, and methods.
  • Keeps informed on new developments within the industry, requirements affecting the business due to new developments and proposes recommended changes to Management for business continuity
  • Maintain good project documentation, including calculations, telephone conversations, planning decisions, rationale and filing copies of all pertinent information.
  • Overcommunicates with all project stakeholders.
  • Complete accurate timesheets daily
  • Various other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program;
  • 5 years' experience in Distribution System Planning for the Energy industry
  • Texas PE License
  • Proficient experience in Milsoft or Windmil products for System Planning
  • Possess strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills and able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
SKILLS:
  • Strong (effective) written and verbal communication skills, exceptional computer skills, with emphasis in project management, spreadsheet and word processing applications.
  • Strong skills of time management, organizational and multi-tasking.

  • This position requires the ability to listen and hear, good eyesight, sitting, standing, walking, and use of hands and arms.
