Student Success Manager - Veteran Education Programs

NGT Academy

Austin, TX โ€ข Remote

$67K - $97K/yr

Full-time

Posted 15 days ago

Job description

NGT Academy was founded by two U.S. Air Force veterans, and we're working to place one million people into tech careers by 2030. This role exists to make sure our veteran students get there.

Most of the students in your caseload are service members and veterans using GI Bill or VR&E benefits to move into IT careers. Your job is to catch them before they fall behind, hold them to the commitments they made to themselves, and get them across the finish line ready to work. That takes someone who understands military culture from the inside and can speak credibly about the transition to a civilian career, because a student decides in the first call whether you actually get it.

We're a veteran-founded company and veterans are well represented on this team.

How the comp works

This role pays for results. Base salary runs $45,000–$65,000 depending on experience and SSM tier — we hire at SSM 1, 2, or 3. On top of that, performance compensation of up to 50% of base at target is earned on student outcomes: completions, certifications, and job placements or promotions in your caseload. On-target earnings land between $67,500 and $97,500. Top performers earn above that.

What you'll own

- Student outcomes — completions, certifications, and placements are how the job is measured and how your performance comp is earned

- Retention — keeping your caseload under a 5% withdrawal rate

- Check-in cadence — two calls in month one for new students, then monthly one-on-ones

- Early intervention — using the data to find students falling behind before they ask for help, then reaching out first

- Accountability with empathy — students set goals, and your job is holding them to their own

- Documentation — detailed notes in HubSpot so the whole team can see where each student stands

- Coordination with Admissions, Training, Career Services, and the Student Success Administrator

What success looks like in your first 90 days

- Onboarded on every program, tool, and stage of the student experience

- Regular check-in rhythm established with your assigned cohort

- Caseload holding under a 5% withdrawal rate

- First students moved toward completion and certification

- At least three process improvements identified from student feedback or gaps you spotted

- Working relationships built across Admissions, Training, and Career Services

Where it goes

SSM 1 → SSM 2 → SSM 3 → Senior SSM → Team Lead → Director of Student Success

NGT Academy | Backed by Y Combinator (W18) | 800+ five-star reviews on Trustpilot

Requirements

- Working knowledge of military education benefits, including the GI Bill and VR&E, or the ability to learn them quickly

- Familiarity with military culture and the move from service into a civilian career, deep enough to build trust with a student in a first conversation

- 2+ years in student support, advising, or success roles, ideally in education or training

- Empathetic and firm — you care about students and still hold them accountable

- Organized and detailed — every student, call, and note tracked in the CRM

- Comfort using data to spot problems early rather than waiting for someone to raise a hand

- Clear communication with students and internal teams alike

- Reliable high-speed internet and a quiet space for student calls

Bonus points

- Experience supporting military-connected students

- Background in IT education or technical training

- HubSpot or comparable CRM experience

Benefits

- Base salary plus performance compensation — OTE $67,500–$97,500

- Fully remote, on a team that has been remote-first since day one

- A defined promotion track: SSM 1 through Director of Student Success

- Work that shows up in outcomes you can point to — completions, certifications, and students placed in tech jobs

- Backed by Y Combinator (W18), with 800+ five-star Trustpilot reviews behind the product
