Role description:

We are seeking a Senior Water/Wastewater Design Engineer to join our growing Resilience Water team. The ideal candidate may sit in or near any of the locations posted.

As a Wastewater Design Engineer, you will utilize your expertise and technical knowledge to execute water and wastewater treatment design & construction engineering activities. You will also manage design teams and mentor junior engineers. You will be a critical member of our team and be expected to support performance of our Philadelphia, PA and Paramus, NJ offices and engagement with national team.

Role accountabilities:

The Senior Water/Wastewater Design Engineer will lead and/or participate in client development activities, assessing potentials, assisting with position and capture strategies, and proposal and presentation efforts for various stages of water/wastewater design projects ranging from feasibility study, conceptual design, detailed design and design services during construction. In addition, working with Area Leader(s) and client Account Leader(s) to develop project scopes and fee estimates, setting the best stage for profitable delivery, managing risk, identifying project staff, and related activities.

This role involves leading projects and clients in the planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater treatment plants, solids handling facilities, biogas facilities, distribution and collection systems, and pump/lift stations and familiar with federal and state funding requirements. Responsibilities also include creating construction documents, specifications, knowledge of required permitting and overseeing construction administration. It requires managing a range of projects for various clients in the region including budgets, delivery schedules, and leading project teams to meet deliverables. The position involves working directly with clients, when assigned, to determine their needs, provide tailored solutions, and ensure compliance with Arcadis practices, quality standards, and safety requirements. Additionally, the role includes mentoring junior engineers and technical staff, coordinating multi-disciplinary engineering teams, and supporting the development of projects from inception to completion. Travel may be required for client meetings, project site visits, and other assignments.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Master's Degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • 10 years of related industry experience in the water/wastewater field.
  • PE License in New Jersey and/or in other nearby states (or ability to obtain NJ PE within 6 months).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of industry-related experience.
  • Experience preparing plans and specifications conform to Construction Specification Institute MasterFormat. 
  • Experience working on design projects with construction contractors utilizing alternative project delivery methods.
