What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

While most engineering roles do not reach a $500,000 annual salary, some highly specialized or executive-level engineers, such as senior design engineers in aerospace or oil and gas industries, can earn this level of compensation. Factors include extensive experience, advanced skills, certifications, and working in high-paying sectors or leadership positions.

How much does a harness design engineer make at Lockheed Martin?

A remote wire harness design engineer at Lockheed Martin typically earns between $70,000 and $110,000 annually, depending on experience, education, and location. The role often requires proficiency with CAD tools and knowledge of aerospace standards, with salaries reflecting the specialized technical skills involved.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote Wire Harness Design Engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Wire Harness Design Engineers often face challenges coordinating effectively with cross-functional teams, such as mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineers, due to the physical separation inherent in remote work. Clear communication using collaborative design tools and regular virtual meetings can help mitigate misunderstandings and ensure alignment on project requirements. Additionally, managing design revisions and ensuring that all team members are working from the latest schematics requires meticulous documentation and version control. Proactively seeking feedback and maintaining detailed records can significantly improve workflow and project outcomes.

Can design engineers work remotely?

Remote work is common for design engineers, including those specializing in wire harness design, especially when their tasks involve CAD software, simulations, and collaboration tools. However, some roles may require on-site presence for testing, manufacturing, or client meetings. The feasibility depends on the company's policies and the specific responsibilities of the position.

What does a Remote Wire Harness Design Engineer do?

A Remote Wire Harness Design Engineer is responsible for designing the layout and specifications of electrical wiring systems, also known as wire harnesses, used in vehicles, machinery, or electronic devices. Working remotely, they use specialized CAD software to create detailed diagrams, ensure compliance with industry standards, and collaborate with engineering teams to integrate the harness into products. Their work helps ensure the safe and efficient operation of complex electrical systems while meeting project requirements and deadlines.

What is the difference between Remote Wire Harness Design Engineer vs Electrical Design Engineer?

AspectRemote Wire Harness Design EngineerElectrical Design Engineer
CredentialsTypically requires electrical or mechanical engineering degree, certifications like IPC standardsRequires electrical engineering degree, possibly PE license
Work EnvironmentDesigning wire harnesses for automotive, aerospace, or industrial applications remotely or on-siteDesigning electrical systems and components, often in office or lab settings
Industry UsageCommon in automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing sectorsUsed across various industries including consumer electronics, automotive, and industrial

The Remote Wire Harness Design Engineer focuses specifically on designing and developing wire harnesses for various industries, often working remotely. In contrast, the Electrical Design Engineer has a broader scope, designing electrical systems and components. Both roles require electrical knowledge and certifications, but their focus areas and work environments differ.

What engineers make $200,000 a year?

Senior engineers in specialized fields such as software engineering, petroleum engineering, aerospace engineering, and certain electrical or systems engineering roles can earn $200,000 or more annually, especially with experience, advanced skills, and in high-demand industries. Leadership positions like engineering managers or technical directors also often reach or exceed this salary level.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Wire Harness Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Wire Harness Design Engineer, you need a strong background in electrical engineering, proficiency in schematic creation, and experience with wire harness design principles, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD Electrical, CATIA, or SolidWorks Electrical, as well as knowledge of industry standards like IPC/WHMA-A-620, is essential. Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and strong communication skills enable effective collaboration across distributed teams. These skills are vital to ensure accurate, safe, and manufacturable wire harness designs that meet project specifications and deadlines.

Job description

Electrical Designer – Aerospace (Remote Contract)

Join an innovative aerospace engineering team supporting aircraft modernization and next-generation electrical system integration. This is a long-term remote contract (12+ months) where you'll play a key role designing complex aircraft electrical systems for high-impact engineering programs.

In this role, you'll develop wire harnesses, electrical schematics, and system layouts using Capital Logic, while creating wiring diagrams, connector tables, cable assemblies, and engineering documentation required for FAA certification. You'll collaborate closely with mechanical, avionics, and manufacturing teams to integrate electrical systems into aircraft, troubleshoot design challenges, and support testing and certification efforts. Your work will directly contribute to the reliability, safety, and performance of advanced aerospace platforms.

What We're Looking For:

  • 3+ years of electrical design experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, or heavy equipment industries

  • Strong proficiency with Capital Logic for schematic capture and wire harness design (required)

  • Experience designing and documenting wire harnesses, electrical interconnects, and system schematics

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and engineering specifications

  • Knowledge of FAA, MIL-STD, DO-160, or similar industry standards

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with SolidWorks Electrical, Zuken, or similar electrical CAD tools

  • Previous aircraft retrofit, modification, or modernization experience

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Avionics, or a related field

Note: Candidates with extensive Capital Logic experience in the automotive industry (including OEM programs such as Daimler) are encouraged to apply, even without prior aerospace experience.
