Substation Engineer (2+ Years Experience) 100% Remote | Renewable Energy & Power Delivery
About the Company Our client is a renewable energy engineering and consulting firm that has been helping shape North America's energy infrastructure since 1995. The company partners with utilities, renewable developers, and independent power producers to design and deliver critical infrastructure supporting the transition to cleaner energy.
With a fully remote workforce located throughout the United States and Canada, the firm specializes in collector substations, renewable interconnections, transmission infrastructure, and power delivery engineering supporting utility-scale wind, solar, and battery energy storage projects.
Position Overview Our client is seeking a Substation Engineer with at least 2 years of experience to support the design and execution of collector substations and renewable interconnection projects.
This role offers the opportunity to work on utility-scale renewable energy projects including wind, solar, and battery storage facilities, helping connect new generation resources to the electrical grid.
The position is 100% remote, allowing engineers to work from anywhere in the United States while collaborating with an experienced team of power delivery professionals.
Responsibilities
  • Support the engineering and design of collector substations and renewable interconnection facilities
  • Develop and review:
    • One-line diagrams
    • Three-line diagrams
    • Physical substation layouts
    • Grounding plans
    • Equipment arrangements
  • Assist with equipment selection and specifications for:
    • Power transformers
    • Circuit breakers
    • Disconnect switches
    • Protective relaying systems
  • Coordinate with transmission line, civil, structural, and protection & control teams
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, and construction packages
  • Participate in project meetings and client discussions
  • Support construction, commissioning, and field engineering activities as needed
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 2+ years of substation engineering experience
  • Experience supporting:
    • Utility substations
    • Collector substations
    • Renewable interconnection projects
  • Familiarity with utility standards and substation design practices
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to thrive in a remote engineering environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with wind, solar, or battery energy storage projects
  • Exposure to:
    • Physical substation design
    • Protection & Control concepts
    • Relay coordination
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
  • Progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
