Remote Wifi Test Engineer information

What is a remote wifi test engineer?

Remote Wifi Test Engineers are professionals who design, execute, and analyze tests to ensure the performance, reliability, and security of wireless networks, all while working remotely. They use specialized tools to evaluate WiFi connectivity, signal strength, throughput, and compatibility across various devices and environments. Their work helps companies identify and resolve network issues, optimize wireless performance, and improve user experience. Remote Wifi Test Engineers often collaborate with development, IT, and quality assurance teams to troubleshoot problems and implement solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote wifi test engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Wifi Test Engineer, you need solid knowledge of wireless networking protocols, troubleshooting expertise, and a relevant degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with Wi-Fi testing tools (such as Ekahau or AirMagnet), scripting languages, and network analysis software is typically required, along with certifications like CWNA or CCNA Wireless. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective remote communication are vital soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure accurate performance assessments, efficient issue resolution, and seamless collaboration across distributed teams.

What are some common challenges faced by remote wifi test engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Wifi Test Engineers often encounter challenges such as troubleshooting connectivity issues without on-site access, coordinating with global teams across time zones, and simulating real-world network environments remotely. Addressing these challenges typically involves leveraging remote diagnostic tools, maintaining clear communication with on-site staff, and utilizing advanced emulation software to replicate various networking scenarios. Staying organized and proactive in documenting test results also helps streamline collaboration and ensures accurate reporting.

Job Description

This role is ideal for an early-career engineer with a strong computer science foundation who is eager to grow into modern test automation. The Junior Automation Engineer will work closely with senior automation architects, developers, and product teams to build in-sprint automated tests for cloud-native applications. This role emphasizes learning, hands-on coding, and adopting AI-assisted development tools while contributing to scalable automation in AWS-based systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Write and maintain automated test cases under guidance from senior engineers
  • Pair with developers to automate test scenarios within the same sprint
  • Assist in API and microservices test automation
  • Learn and apply AI-assisted coding tools to speed up development
  • Contribute to CI/CD test execution and smoke/regression runs
  • Participate in story grooming and understand testability early
  • Gradually grow from executing tests to designing automation components

Must Haves:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 3-4+ years of experience (or strong academic + internship experience)
  • Programming experience in Java or Python (TypeScript a plus)
  • Foundational understanding of automation concepts (even if not deeply experienced)
  • Interest in or early exposure to AI tools (Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor, etc.)
  • Understanding of Agile/Scrum and willingness to work in-sprint
  • Comfort collaborating with developers and learning test frameworks
  • Strong problem-solving mindset and curiosity about "how systems break"

Pluses:

  • Exposure to Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, or WebdriverIO
  • Familiarity with AWS concepts (Lambda, SQS, APIs, cloud basics)
  • API testing knowledge (REST fundamentals)
  • Experience from academic projects or labs involving automation or CI/CD
  • Passion for innovation and learning new tooling
  • Early experience using AI for coding or debugging
