What is the difference between Remote Visual Foxpro Developer vs Remote SQL Developer?

AspectRemote Visual Foxpro DeveloperRemote SQL Developer
Required SkillsVisual FoxPro, database management, programmingSQL, database design, query optimization
Work EnvironmentRemote, primarily software development and maintenanceRemote, database development and management
Industry UsageLegacy systems, software applicationsData management, analytics, enterprise systems

Both roles often require database knowledge and remote work setup. However, Visual Foxpro Developers focus on maintaining legacy applications using Visual FoxPro, while SQL Developers specialize in designing and optimizing databases using SQL. The choice depends on whether the employer needs legacy system support or modern database solutions.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote Visual Foxpro Developers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Visual Foxpro Developers often encounter challenges related to legacy code maintenance and integration with newer technologies. Since Visual Foxpro is a discontinued product, documentation and community support can be limited, requiring strong problem-solving skills and resourcefulness. Effective communication with team members is essential, as remote environments can make collaboration more challenging, especially when clarifying requirements or coordinating code changes. To succeed, developers should proactively document their work, leverage online forums, and maintain clear communication channels with clients and colleagues.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Visual Foxpro Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Visual Foxpro Developer, you need strong programming skills in Visual Foxpro, database management, and a solid background in software development principles, typically supported by a degree in computer science or related experience. Familiarity with legacy systems, version control tools like Git, and integration with SQL Server or other databases is often required. Excellent problem-solving, self-motivation, and communication skills are crucial for effective remote collaboration and troubleshooting. These skills ensure the ability to maintain, upgrade, and support critical legacy applications efficiently while working independently.

What is a Remote Visual FoxPro Developer?

A Remote Visual FoxPro Developer is a software professional who specializes in building, maintaining, and upgrading applications using Microsoft's Visual FoxPro programming language, often working from a remote location. Their responsibilities typically include database management, bug fixing, code optimization, and migrating legacy systems to newer platforms. They collaborate with clients or teams online, leveraging their expertise in Visual FoxPro to support business applications that rely on this technology. Since Visual FoxPro is a legacy language, these developers are particularly valuable for organizations with existing FoxPro applications that require ongoing support or modernization.

Job description

About LearnLux

LearnLux is the leading provider of workplace financial wellbeing, blending fiduciary digital planning with access to one-on-one guidance from Certified Financial Planner™️ professionals. Our award-winning program helps employees navigate critical financial decisions from budgeting and benefits elections to equity compensation, home buying, and retirement so they can feel confident about their money and focused at work. Advanced reporting helps our partners understand impact, driving outcomes like reduced financial stress, increased productivity, and improved retention.

We're building LearnLux with intention. We move quickly, operate with a high bar for quality, and value people who take ownership of their work. If you're energized by solving new problems, taking accountability, and pushing yourself to do your best work every day, you'll find this a rewarding environment.

We're a venture-backed company that has raised over $35M to date and is supported by experienced investors and long-term partners. We're a growth-focused business building for scale, and we're excited by the opportunities and challenges that come with that journey.

The Role

At LearnLux, you will build a product that changes lives. Our mission is to empower people to take control of their financial future, whether that means getting out of debt, buying their first home, or preparing for retirement. As a Senior Product Designer & Builder, you'll shape that mission by defining how people experience our platform: the flows they navigate, the decisions they're guided through, and the moments where complexity becomes clarity.

This is not a traditional design role where you wait for product requirements. You're an autonomous IC who owns the entire product lifecycle, from early discovery and research through polished UI, roadmap advocacy, and built-in-code prototypes. You bridge the gap between thinking and doing, using AI as leverage to move from an idea to a validated, shippable solution in record time.

We are an agile product team, and this role is broad by design. You'll own research, design, prototyping, and systems thinking across our product. We'll prioritize together, and you won't be expected to do everything at once, but you should be energized by the range, not daunted by it. If you're excited by broad ownership, high impact, and the opportunity to shape how millions of people engage with their financial lives, we'd love to meet you.

This role reports into the Head of Engineering. This role is based in Denver, Colorado. Remote candidates will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis

What you'll do
  • Own the Full Design Loop. Move fluidly between rough sketches, functional prototypes, and high-fidelity flows. You take responsibility for the softer elements of design and UX: understanding mental models, brainstorming solutions, and rapid testing.
  • Lead Continuous Discovery. Run lightweight, ongoing user research. Recruit participants, conduct rapid tests, and synthesize qualitative signals into actionable product decisions. You maintain a continuous discovery cadence so the team always has fresh evidence to build on.
  • Use AI as a Force Multiplier. Use modern AI tools to accelerate your workflow: transcribing interviews, extracting themes, prototyping ideas, and turning qualitative data into clear insights. You treat AI as leverage, not a shortcut.
  • Shape the Roadmap. You won't just execute on someone else's vision. Use evidence-based conclusions to advocate for user needs, influence product direction, and ensure initiatives are followed through to implementation.
  • Build Shoulder-to-Shoulder. Work closely with engineering, analytics, product leads, and our co-founders. You'd rather hash things out in a live working session than leave comments in Figma for a week.
  • Evolve the Design System. Contribute to the LearnLux design system, creating reusable patterns that let the team move fast without sacrificing quality or visual consistency.
  • Push Toward Adaptive UX. Help evolve our product experience toward more personalized, intent-driven patterns. Bring a point of view on how AI can reshape the way users interact with financial planning tools.
You should bring
  • 5+ years of experience in product design, ideally with exposure to fintech or complex B2B SaaS.
  • A builder mindset: a track record of shipping things beyond Figma files. Whether that's frontend code, AI-assisted prototyping tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Codex), or something else, you close the gap between design and production.
  • Research fluency: demonstrated ability to plan and conduct rapid user testing, draw insightful conclusions, and translate findings into product decisions.
  • AI maturity: you're comfortable experimenting with emerging tools to streamline research, prototyping, and synthesis.
It would be great if you also
  • Experience with research ops tools (e.g., Rally, User Interviews, Dovetail).
  • A background in behavioral economics, individualized psychology, or localization/globalization.
  • Prior experience as a first design hire or working in a 0-to-1 environment.
LearnLux is a fit for you if you
  • Thrive in fast-moving environments and enjoy building in moments of change. We operate with urgency, and roles, priorities, and approaches evolve as we grow.
  • Like wearing multiple hats and helping define the path forward. At LearnLux, roles evolve as we grow, and employees often help create clarity, structure, and direction where it didn't previously exist.
  • Take initiative and don't wait to be asked. You see problems as opportunities and are comfortable stepping in to move work forward.
  • Are energized by ambiguity and willing to make decisions with imperfect information. We learn quickly by doing, and pace is a competitive advantage for us.
  • Enjoy being hands-on and owning work end to end. While strategic thinking matters, execution, follow-through, and accountability are what drive impact here.
  • Are motivated by high standards and continuous improvement. As we hit new milestones, we intentionally raise the bar on quality, ownership, and outcomes.
  • Value clear, frequent communication and collaboration. As a remote team, staying aligned through proactive communication is core to how we operate.
Benefits
  • Remote-first company structure
  • Medical, dental, and vision
  • 401(k)
  • Mental wellbeing (Talkspace)
  • Financial wellbeing (LearnLux)
  • Paid vacation and sick leave
  • Paid sabbatical after 5 years of service
  • A supportive, inclusive team culture
  • Opportunities for continuous learning and growth at a fast-growing startup at the cutting edge intersection of financial wellness and technology
