Job description

SALARY IS NEGOTIABLE BASED ON QUALIFICATIONS OF CANDIDATE. The purpose of the class is to provide full management and support to planning, design, and construction for the Department of Public Works with an emphasis on infrastructure management for the City of Hampton.

Supervises and directs project team members to ensure promptness of schedule within budget and requirements of the City's Stormwater Management Program. This job works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings. Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.

Three (3) years of full-time equivalent experience in Stormwater Civil Engineering. Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or equivalent. Must be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Virginia or have the ability to obtain licensure within one (1) year of employment.

Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria. This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy. Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.

Additional Requirements Requires frequent travel throughout the City. Extensive contact with city departments and related outside agencies. Requires some duties to be performed after normal working hours and outdoors in all weather conditions.

The incumbent will be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules. Click here for a complete job description.
