What is a remote vinyl graphic installer?

A Remote Vinyl Graphic Installer is a professional who applies vinyl graphics, decals, or wraps to surfaces such as vehicles, windows, walls, or signs at various locations. Unlike traditional installers who work from a fixed location or shop, remote installers travel to client sites to perform installations. They may work independently or as part of a team, and are often responsible for ensuring that graphics are applied smoothly, without bubbles or wrinkles, and according to design specifications. This job often requires skills in measuring, surface preparation, and safe use of installation tools. Being remote, it also demands strong time management and communication skills to coordinate with clients and teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote vinyl graphic installer?

To thrive as a Remote Vinyl Graphic Installer, you need expertise in measuring, cutting, and applying vinyl graphics with precision, often supported by experience or training in sign installation. Familiarity with tools such as squeegees, heat guns, cutting plotters, and possibly certification from organizations like the United Application Standards Group (UASG) is valuable. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and strong communication skills help ensure high-quality work and effective client interactions. These skills are essential for delivering visually appealing and durable installations that meet client specifications and industry standards.

What are some common challenges remote vinyl graphic installers face, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Vinyl Graphic Installers often encounter challenges such as varying surface conditions, ensuring precise alignment, and managing installation without on-site team support. Overcoming these challenges involves thorough site assessments (often via photos or video calls), careful measurement and surface preparation, and proactive communication with clients or local contacts. Many installers also rely on a strong set of tools and detailed installation guides to maintain high-quality results while working independently.

Job description

Construction industry experience required. Although this role is remote, candidates MUST reside in NJ, MD, PA, NY, CT; the role requires regular onsite presence at RPH's Engineering Hub in Hammonton, New Jersey as business needs dictate.
Roof Penetration Housing (RPH) is a dynamic, rapidly expanding leader in the commercial building products industry, trusted by architects, engineers, contractors, and building owners on a wide range of critical projects, from hospitals and data centers to K-12 schools. Our innovative, engineered solutions prevent roof and wall leaks and ensure storm shelters and safe rooms meet code requirements and protect occupants during severe weather events.
We nearly doubled revenue in 2025, and we're still accelerating. We're experiencing rapid expansion across both our New Jersey and Texas locations, and we're growing our powerhouse team as we continue setting new benchmarks for performance, safety, and success in commercial construction.
But what we're most proud of isn't the growth, it's how we grow: deliberately, together, and without cutting corners. If that sounds like your kind of place, we'd like to meet you.
About the Role
RPH is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Writer to develop accurate, clear, and field-ready technical documentation for our commercial building product lines. This position requires more than strong writing skills. The Technical Writer must be able to understand construction products, drawings, assemblies, installation methods, and technical information and translate them into documentation that is both written and highly visual.
The role will produce installation manuals, technical data sheets, CSI specifications, submittals, picture cards, quick-reference guides, and other materials used by architects, engineers, contractors, and installers. The ideal candidate will also help RPH expand technical content into video and other visual training formats where appropriate.
This position reports to the Director of Marketing and can be based remotely in NJ, MD, PA, NY, CT; however, the role requires regular onsite presence at RPH's Engineering Hub in Hammonton, New Jersey as business needs dictate. Travel is essential to effectively partner with engineers, gain hands-on product knowledge, observe installation practices, and develop best-in-class technical documentation. While remote candidates will be considered, applicants located in or near our New Jersey location are preferred.
A portfolio is required with resume submission.
About You
You are a detail-oriented technical communicator who understands the construction industry and can turn complex engineering and product information into clear, usable documentation. You are comfortable working directly with engineers, asking questions, reviewing drawings, interacting with physical products, and translating technical information into strong written, visual, and instructional content. You are also highly organized and understand the importance of document accuracy, version control, consistent formatting, and maintaining a well-structured technical document library.
Essential Functions
Produce and maintain technical documentation including:
  • Installation Manuals
  • Picture Cards and Quick-Reference Guides
  • Product Data Sheets and Technical Data Sheets
  • CSI Specifications and Guide Specifications
  • Submittal Packages and Cut Sheets
  • Bills of Materials
  • Technical Bulletins and Best Practices Guides
  • Troubleshooting Guides
  • Warranty and Product Limitation Documents
  • Application Guides and system tie-in diagrams
  • Training materials and technical videos
  • Other product and technical documentation as required

Additional responsibilities include:
  • Translate engineering drawings, shop drawings, product information, and technical discussions into clear instructions, graphics, and visuals.
  • Develop documentation that balances written instruction with photography, illustrations, diagrams, callouts, and other visual communication.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Marketing, Quality, Product Development, Sales, and other internal teams to ensure technical accuracy.
  • Work directly with engineers and physical products to understand installation methods, product interfaces, limitations, and field applications.
  • Support the development of video-based installation and training content.
  • Maintain consistent terminology, formatting, document numbering, revision history, and version control.
  • Maintain a structured, organized technical document library and ensure current and superseded documents are properly managed.
  • Identify missing or conflicting technical information and work with subject matter experts to resolve it before publication.

Core Requirements
  • Must Have: Minimum 10 years in technical writing and 5 years of experience in the construction industry.
  • Demonstrated technical writing experience within construction, building products, engineering, manufacturing, or another technically complex environment.
  • Strong understanding of construction terminology, drawings, assemblies, and documentation.
  • Strong graphic design and visual communication skills.
  • Experience creating technical manuals, diagrams, illustrations, picture-based instructions, or similar visual documentation.
  • Strong ability to translate complex technical information into clear, structured, field-ready content.
  • Ability to think mechanically and understand how products, components, and building systems interact.
  • Experience with document version control, revision management, and structured document libraries.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional information gathering and work effectively with engineers and other technical subject matter experts.
  • Ability to travel periodically to RPH's Engineering Hub in Hammonton, New Jersey.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of commercial roofing, waterproofing, building envelope systems, wall systems, mechanical assemblies, or related building products.
  • Familiarity with CSI MasterFormat, CSI specifications, and construction submittal documentation.
