Job description

About Field Materials AI
Field Materials develops AI-native material management software for construction. Our AI agents streamline material purchasing and equipment rentals, inventory management, and prefab operations. Our platform integrates with all major construction ERPs, eliminating manual data entry for purchase orders, invoices, delivery slips, and receipts; it saves 5-10% in material costs.
The company has grown 3x over the past year and is now processing $1B+ in construction purchasing volume. Founded by serial entrepreneurs with successful exits to Fortune 500 companies (including PayPal), the company has raised over $20M in total funding and is backed by leading Silicon Valley venture capital funds and senior executives from companies like Lowe's and Google.
Our company is the people we hire. We aspire to build a team of smart, high-caliber players that inspire each other to excel yet are not afraid to leave egos behind, roll up their sleeves, and fix what doesn't work. We don't believe in micromanagement and trust our team to take full ownership of their responsibilities. We believe in transparency as a way to build trust, break communication barriers, and align towards a common goal.
About the Role
As a founding Sales Engineer at Field Materials AI, you will be the technical backbone of our sales process. You will bridge the gap between our cutting-edge AI technology and the operational needs of specialty and general contractors. You will partner closely with Account Executives to lead technical discovery, demo the product, prototype custom AI agents, and demonstrate to customers how Field Materials AI integrates seamlessly with our customers' ERP systems (Sage 100, Sage 300, Sage Intacct, Viewpoint Vista, Viewpoint Spectrum, Foundation, CMiC, etc.).
This is a high-visibility role where you will directly influence our product roadmap by acting as the "voice of the customer" to our engineering team. If you are passionate about AI, construction technology, and solving real-world efficiency problems, this is the perfect place to be.
Responsibilities
  • Technical Discovery: Partner with AEs to conduct deep-dive discovery sessions, identifying prospect pain points in procurement, AP workflows, and inventory management.
  • Product Demonstrations: Deliver compelling, tailored demonstrations of the Field Materials platform, specifically showcasing our AI capabilities and bi-directional ERP integrations.
  • Solution Architecture: Design and present how Field Materials' modules (RFQ, Orders, Inventory, Invoices) map to the customer's existing workflows and how these modules need to be configured.
  • AI engineering: you will prototype AI agents customized to prospects' needs. These agents may be used to extract information from documents or automate customer workflows end to end.
  • Integration Expert: Serve as the subject matter expert on our integrations with Procore, Sage 100/300/Intacct, Viewpoint Vista and Spectrum, Foundation, CMiC, and Quickbooks helping prospects understand how data syncs between systems.
  • Security & Technical Validation: Lead technical evaluations, including answering security questionnaires and addressing concerns regarding API capabilities, data privacy, and AI accuracy.
  • Feedback Loop: Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to share field insights, ensuring our roadmap addresses the most critical needs of the construction industry.
  • Post-Demo Support: Act as a technical consultant during the closing stages of the sales cycle to ensure a smooth hand-off to the Customer Success team for implementation.
About You
  • Technical Acumen: You have a strong understanding of SaaS products and ideally have experience with construction ERPs or project management software.
  • Effective Communicator: You can explain AI concepts and technical workflows simply and relatably to both CFOs and Field Foremen.
  • Problem Solver: You enjoy "rolling up your sleeves" to figure out how to make a solution work within a customer's unique constraints.
  • AI Curiosity: You are excited about building AI agents, enjoy prompt engineering, and are curious about programming.
  • Owner Mindset: You take full responsibility for the technical success of a deal and don't wait for instructions to improve a process.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience as a Sales Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, Solutions Architect, or a technical implementation specialist (SaaS experience required).
  • Proven ability to manage multiple technical evaluations simultaneously in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Hard Science, Computer Science, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience with one or more construction accounting/ERP systems (e.g., Sage 100/300, Viewpoint Vista/Spectrum, Foundation, or Procore) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with the construction industry and common workflows are a big plus (RFQs, POs, Invoices, 3-way matching).
Benefits & Perks
  • Competitive Compensation: Above-market base salary plus commission and stock options.
  • Health & Wellness: Full Medical, Dental, and Vision Health Benefits.
  • 401K company plan: with a 3% match
  • Growth: Annual personal development fund and opportunities for rapid career advancement in a fast-growing startup.
  • Flexibility: Unlimited untracked time off (PTO) and a fully remote work environment.
  • Perks: Gym reimbursement and a swanky work laptop.
