Mid-Sr. Energy Storage Transmission Planning & Interconnection Engineer
Locations: FULLY REMOTE (Anywhere in the USA) OR Houston, TX (HYBRID)

The Transmission, Interconnection, and Market Operations Teams is at the crux of the organization supporting Project Development, EPC, and Origination efforts for an organization taking on next generation challenges in the battery storage space. Fast paced work culture built for growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Renewables Transmission & Interconnection Engineer - Dig into grid stuff: Run steady-state transmission studies using tools like TARA to figure out where the network might need upgrades-and come up with smart ways to avoid them, depending on what U.S. market you're in.
  • Renewables Transmission & Interconnection Engineer -All things modeling: Build and tweak BESS models in PSLF, PSS/E, and PSCAD for load flow and dynamics. Simulate disturbances, fine-tune IBR performance, and make sure storage plants behave how the grid expects them to.
  • Renewables Transmission & Interconnection Engineer - Grid gatekeeping:Handle generator interconnection submissions across ISOs and RTOs, sit in on scoping meetings, and manage back-and-forth with utilities and grid operators to push projects through.
  • Renewables Transmission & Interconnection Engineer - Tech translator: Help other teams understand what interconnection means, what's missing (like reactive power), and how we can meet compliance and technical needs.
  • Renewables Transmission & Interconnection Engineer - Big-picture thinker: Keep tabs on how transmission reliability holds up short- and long-term, look at what other utilities and grid operators are doing, and figure out how those moves might affect our projects.
  • Renewables Transmission & Interconnection Engineer - Find the best fit: Scout cost-effective grid solutions, study system limits, and offer solid advice on how our BESS projects plug into various transmission and distribution setups-now and in the future.
  • Renewables Transmission & Interconnection Engineer - Team with the system operators: Align our plans with what ISOs and RTOs are planning, making sure we meet both current and evolving bulk power standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • School creds: Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering is a must; Master's is even better-especially if you focused on Power and Energy Systems.
  • Been in the game: 1-5 years of hands-on experience in the power or energy world, with bonus points for time spent in renewables or working on complex electrical systems.
  • Power system chops: You know your way around modeling, simulations, and running power flow studies. TARA experience HIGHLY PREFERRED. Other tools like PSCAD, PSLF, and PSSE will be considered.
  • Market savvy: You're fluent in how markets like CAISO, PJM, SPP, MISO operate (beyond just ERCOT). That experience really shines when things get technical.
  • Inverter-based brains: You've modeled inverter-based plants and can confidently navigate the quirks that come with them.
  • Team whisperer: You're great at influencing cross-functional teams and pulling people together-even across regions, time zones, and language gaps.
  • Client-facing confidence: Whether it's internal teams or external stakeholders, you're comfortable presenting, explaining studies, and driving home the message.
  • Office-ready: You can knock out a clean deck in PowerPoint, crunch in Excel, and document it all in Word without blinking.
