Mako is a leading fintech firm, building software to bring top asset managers and their clients into the cloud. Our SaaS platform allows firms to onboard new clients, interact with their existing clients and simplify costly back-office procedures with smart automation and great user experience.

This is a pivotal time for a transition to cloud services, which has fueled rapid growth in our customer base, as firms seek a product of our quality in order to put their best foot forward to remote clients.
As we continue our rapid growth, Mako is looking for a business intelligence guru to take over its existing business intelligence platform. Being data driven is a core value for the company, and our data needs now require the efforts of a full-time employee. Reporting to the CFO/COO, your mission will be to expand and improve our data lake, data flows and reporting to allow us to take the next leap in our data journey.

Areas of Responsibility and Tasks


  • Data Lake
  • Establish and maintain a cloud hosted data lake
  • Review our ETL services to transfer data from our data sources to the data lake and from the data lake to our Power BI reports and other systems
  • Manage our API keys, OAuth settings and necessary access to allow for our different services to authenticate with the data lake
  • Optimize data refreshes to provide timely, accurate and complete data that works within the API parameters of our subscribed services with minimal downtime


  • Data Modeling
  • Use the source data available in our data lake to normalize, transform and link our data together for the purposes of executing business intelligence calculations and reporting


  • Business Intelligence
  • Write calculations in Power BI to create business intelligence reports to meet Mako's reporting needs


  • Data Integrity, Validation and Auditability
  • Establish checks and balances to identify if key data is missing from source systems to facilitate accurate and complete business intelligence reporting
  • Work with other Mako stakeholders to ensure reporting is accurate and meeting requirements
  • Create necessary audit support for business intelligence calculations to give users confidence that reporting is accurate, timely and complete


Background

  • Educational background in computer science, data analytics, statistics or similar
  • 2-5 years of experience managing a data lake, data modelling and writing business intelligence calculations
  • Strong communication skills to translate business needs into technical solutions and vise versa
  • Provides proactive insights into how to make Mako's business intelligence services more efficient, intuitive and user-friendly
  • Willing to proactively research and learn as business intelligence platforms and strategies evolve over time
  • Experience with a business intelligence platform (Power BI, Tableau or similar) is required
  • Experience with Excel and/or Google Sheets at an Advanced level is required
  • Experience with AWS is an asset
