As the Director of Engineering at SEON, you will be responsible for the ownership and optimization of our Software Engineering specializing in our modern technology stack.

This role offers flexibility and can be based in Austin with a hybrid schedule.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Develop and execute our software engineering strategy to drive business objectives and empower engineering teams.

  • Establishing software engineering standards across the SEON platform for our engineering teams to ensure consistency and usability.

  • Build and develop a team of software engineer leaders, provide clear expectations (1:1s, constant feedback, individual career planning, goal setting, etc.)

  • Lead the team’s recruitment efforts to ensure we can meet our growth objectives

  • Collaborate with product teams in planning, dependency management, risk management

  • Resolve knowledge and process gaps

  • Help to implement and propose development process improvements to make the team’s work more efficient

  • Work directly with Product Managers, Architects, and your peer Engineering Managers to explore and deliver the best value to our customers and provide visibility on the progress of the ongoing projects

  • Help the team grow with mentoring on both technical and non-technical skills and performance management.

  • Be an excellent steward of our engineering culture and encourage knowledge sharing

  • Operate as a thought partner and leader to Technology and GTM leadership, identifying risks and opportunities to shape our products

WHAT YOU’ll BRING:

  • 8+ years of experience as an Engineering Leader responsible for delivering products, core services, or comprehensive features

  • Experience managing mostly remote teams in multiple timezones

  • Background of being a hands-on software engineer. Including, but not limited to development within a leading cloud platform (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure), development operations, and testing frameworks

  • Comprehensive technical expertise in delivering a B2B SaaS product with a track record of managing a globally distributed, multi-disciplined software engineering team

  • Strong understanding of how web services and SaaS applications work

  • Exceptional service orientation and ability to lead change using positive and collaborative methods; removes barriers, acts with a sense of urgency, and leads by example

  • Experience with growing, coaching, mentoring, and providing feedback to the engineers in the team including under challenging situations

  • Demonstrated history of leadership in managing high-impact software engineering projects, preferably in a SaaS startup/scaleup environment.

  • Lead with empathy and trust, the ability to give constructive criticism

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across multiple levels, from detailed technical designs with engineering to broad product initiatives with key business stakeholders

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  • Project management experience

  • Business Professional English Required

  • A degree in Computer Science, similar field, or equivalent experience working in the industry

  • Experience in highly agile startup-like environments

(AMAZING IF YOU ALSO HAVE):

  • Demonstrated experience building high performance systems with a major cloud provider (AWS preferred)

  • Knowledge of modern DevOps technologies, such as Terraform, Kubernetes, ELK stack, Prometheus, etc.

  • Technical expertise with the building blocks of a modern data stack, such as Prefect, AWS Glue, Iceberg, MLflow, dbt, Snowflake, and others

  • Experience with large-scale data migration projects, ensuring minimal disruption and data integrity

  • Expertise in designing and implementing real-time data processing and streaming solutions
