What is a remote US GAAP accountant?

A Remote US GAAP Accountant is a finance professional who works from a remote location and specializes in ensuring that a company's financial statements comply with the United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP). These accountants prepare, review, and analyze financial documents for accuracy and compliance. They may also assist with audits, financial reporting, and the implementation of new accounting standards, all while collaborating with teams and clients virtually.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote US GAAP accountant?

To thrive as a Remote US GAAP Accountant, you need a solid understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance, typically supported by a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and, often, a CPA certification. Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, SAP, or Oracle, along with advanced Excel skills, is commonly required. Strong attention to detail, self-motivation, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for excelling in a remote environment. These skills ensure accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and efficient collaboration with teams and clients from a distance.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working remotely in US GAAP accounting roles?

Professionals in remote US GAAP accounting roles often face challenges related to communication and collaboration, especially when coordinating with team members across different time zones or departments. Ensuring access to secure and up-to-date financial data can require strict adherence to company protocols and the use of specialized software. Additionally, staying current with frequent updates to GAAP standards may require extra initiative in a remote setting, as in-person training and peer discussions are less accessible. Despite these challenges, many find that remote roles offer flexibility and autonomy, while still providing opportunities to collaborate virtually with audit teams, finance departments, and external stakeholders.

Job description

Gong is transforming revenue organizations through AI-powered insights and automation. As a category-defining SaaS company operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, we are looking for a strategic and hands-on Director of Technical Accounting & Reporting to lead complex accounting initiatives, support scalable growth, and help strengthen our financial reporting infrastructure.

This role is ideal for a technically strong accounting leader who thrives in dynamic environments, enjoys solving complex business challenges, and can influence cross-functional stakeholders while maintaining the highest standards of financial integrity and compliance.

What You'll Do
  • Serve as the company's subject matter expert on technical accounting matters, providing proactive guidance on complex transactions, new business initiatives, and evolving accounting standards.
  • Lead the research, evaluation, and documentation of technical accounting conclusions under US GAAP, including preparation of clear and concise technical accounting memos.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Accounting, Finance, Legal, Corporate Development, FP&A, Tax, and external auditors to assess accounting implications of strategic transactions and operational changes.
  • Support the company's financial reporting and disclosure requirements, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and international Statutory financial reporting, SEC regulations, and internal control standards.
  • Drive accounting assessments related to strategic initiatives, commercial arrangements, acquisitions, financing transactions, and other non-routine activities.
  • Monitor emerging FASB and SEC guidance, evaluate potential impacts to the business, and lead implementation of new accounting standards where applicable.
  • Help scale and optimize technical accounting and reporting processes to support the company's continued growth and operational maturity.
  • Influence and mentor members of the accounting organization while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership by translating complex accounting matters into practical business insights and recommendations.
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from a top-tier university or equivalent experience.
  • Active CPA license or equivalent professional certification.
  • 12+ years of combined public accounting and/or industry experience, including significant exposure to high-growth technology or SaaS environments.
  • 6+ years of deep technical accounting experience with strong knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements, including, but not limited to, ASC 606 and Stock-Based Compensation.
  • Proven ability to independently research, analyze, and document complex accounting issues.
  • 4+ years of progressive leadership experience with demonstrated success building and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong executive presence with exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to simplify complex technical concepts for both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Experience operating in a SOX-compliant environment with strong understanding of internal controls and public company readiness.
  • Highly proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in a fast-changing, high-growth environment.
You'll Stand Out If You Have
  • Big 4 public accounting experience, including advisory practice and/or National Office rotation.
  • Deep expertise in areas such as revenue recognition (ASC 606), business combinations, consolidation, leases, derivatives, equity transactions, and SaaS-related accounting matters.
  • Experience supporting M&A transactions and structuring deals to achieve desired accounting and business outcomes.
  • Background partnering across global organizations to influence change and drive scalable processes.
  • Prior experience in a high-growth SaaS, AI, or cloud technology company strongly preferred.
  • Passion for building in fast-moving environments with a mindset focused on innovation, operational excellence, and business partnership.
PERKS & BENEFITSΒ
  • We offer Gongsters a variety of medical, dental, and vision plans, designed to fit you and your family's needs.
  • Wellbeing Fund - flexible wellness stipend to support a healthy lifestyle.
  • Mental Health benefits with covered therapy and coaching.
  • 401(k) program to help you invest in your future.
  • Education & learning stipend for personal growth and development.
  • Flexible vacation time to promote a healthy work-life blend.
  • Paid parental leave to support you and your family.
  • Company-wide recharge days each quarter.
  • Work from home stipend to help you succeed in a remote environment.

The annual salary hiring range for this position is $164,000 - $235,000 USD.Β

Compensation is based on factors unique to each candidate, including, but not limited to, job-related skills, qualification, education, experience, and location. At Gong, we have a location-based compensation structure, which means there may be a different range for candidates in other locations. The total compensation package for this position, in addition to base compensation, may include incentive compensation, bonus, equity, and benefits. Some of our sales compensation programs also offer the potential to achieve above targeted earnings for those who exceed their sales targets.Β

We are always looking for outstanding Gongsters! So if this sounds like something that interests you regardless of compensation, please reach out. We may have more roles for you to consider and would love to connect.

We have noticed a rise in recruiting impersonations across the industry, where scammers attempt to access candidates' personal and financial information through fake interviews and offers.
