Section 1: Position Summary

Timely and accurate completion of contribution calculations and annual nondiscrimination testing for small to medium combo 401(k)/Cash Balance plans. Be a technical resource for consultants and other team members.

Section 2: Job Functions, Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review employee census data and prepare questions for the client as needed
  • Perform nondiscrimination testing including ADP/ACP, 410(b), 401(a)(4), and 401(a)(26) for small to medium size 401(k)/cash balance combo plans of intermediate complexity
  • Calculate options for failed tests with minimal assistance
  • Complete DC balance forward valuations and related journals and participant statements
  • Calculate cash balance contributions and earnings, and prepare journals and participant statements
  • Perform self-employment income calculations
  • Perform year-end estimates and plan design studies and projections
  • Perform and review trust accounting and Forms 5500-SF
  • Perform technical research and assist consultants with compliance and plan design issues
  • Identify consulting opportunities and propose recommendations to add value
  • Recommend and support improvements to testing procedures and programs, including testing of new systems and writing procedures
  • Actively participate in team meetings and collaborative discussions
  • Provide backup support and additional tasks as assigned
  • Independently manage assigned workload and update workflow system daily
  • Complete projects accurately, efficiently, and timely
  • Responsible for protecting, securing, and proper handling of all confidential data held by Ascensus to ensure against unauthorized access, improper transmission, and/or unapproved disclosure of information that could result in harm to Ascensus or our clients.

Section 3: Experience, Skills, Knowledge Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience administering 401(k)/Profit Sharing/Cash Balance plans
  • Intermediate to advanced experience performing DC nondiscrimination testing including carve-outs, new comparability, gateway, and top-heavy
  • Hands-on cash balance experience (calculating hypothetical contributions, performing 401(a)(26) and combo DC/CB nondiscrimination testing).
  • Intermediate to advanced understanding of retirement plan regulations
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Intermediate proficiency in Excel
  • Basic accounting skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with others
  • Self-starter with strong organization, time management, and project management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adjust to changing business needs
  • Reliable and accountable with a proven ability to follow through on commitments and responsibilities
  • Commitment to professional development and retirement industry education. ASPPA CPC or QPA designation preferred
  • Availability to work overtime when business needs require
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced remote environment
