These abilities ensure that captions are accurate, timely, and accessible, meeting the needs of diverse audiences and compliance standards.

What are remote transcription captioning jobs?

Remote transcription captioning jobs involve listening to audio or video content and typing out what is being said to create written captions. These captions are used for live broadcasts, recorded videos, or online meetings to make content accessible to a wider audience, including people who are deaf or hard of hearing. Remote captioners typically work from home, require good typing skills, attention to detail, and may need specialized software to complete their work. The work can be freelance, part-time, or full-time depending on the employer and project requirements.

What are some common challenges faced by remote transcription captionists, and how can they be addressed?

Remote transcription captionists often encounter challenges such as managing audio quality issues, meeting tight deadlines, and maintaining focus during long transcription sessions. To address these, it's important to invest in reliable headphones, use noise-cancelling tools, and create a distraction-free workspace. Additionally, developing strong time management skills and breaking work into manageable segments can help maintain accuracy and productivity. Regularly updating software and staying connected with team members for support can also improve workflow and job satisfaction.

Job description

The Role

We are looking to grow our core Applied Science team by adding a "Senior Applied Data Scientist". This is an individual contributor role on a highly collaborative team. The Applied Science team is a self-sufficient, product development team that applies research and experimentation to fulfill its goals of developing and maintaining business-critical software systems. In short, you'll be a full-stack applied data scientist and software developer. 3Play Media has diverse business and technical challenges related to media transcription, captioning, audio description, dubbing, subtitling, and translation. This team makes major contributions in many technical domains, including software engineering, systems engineering, machine learning, natural language processing, generative AI, signal processing, applied probability and statistics, data analysis, and controlled experimentation. You'll be expected to contribute to and learn about several of these domains.

We are looking for a curious, communicative, collaborative, humble, self-sufficient, and flexible data scientist. The ideal candidate is energized by the craft of building efficient, reliable software systems alongside sensible, robust machine learning and AI models. You'll approach engineering and data science as disciplines that are always evolving, and you actively seek out and weigh new approaches rather than settling into the familiar. Above all, you understand that this work is a team sport: you know that strong collaboration, durable relationships, and genuinely diverse perspectives aren't nice-to-haves but the foundation of doing it well.

What You'll Do
  • Contribute to a shared codebase, using GitHub and other modern collaboration tools, such as agentic coding systems
  • Perform the technical elements of a variety of product development and data analysis projects (prototyping, evaluation, productionization, and maintenance), especially related to audio and video processing, generative AI, predictive modeling, and NLP
  • Participate in the internal peer review process, including design reviews, code reviews, and data analysis reviews
  • Design, manage, and analyze controlled experiments within our production systems
  • Regularly report on progress, results, findings, risks, and opportunities
Who You AreMust-haves
  • 2+ years full time working experience in signal processing, data science, or machine learning roles, including predictive modeling, data processing, and data analysis responsibilities
  • Extremely strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Strong familiarity with Python coding, utilizing industry standard libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, Matplotlib/Seaborn)
  • Interest in presenting technical and business-oriented information to a variety of audiences, including senior management and customers
  • BS/ MS / PhD in Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science or a related field
Nice-to-haves
  • Strong academic and professional experience with audio signal processing, speech synthesis, and computer vision
  • Experience writing, deploying, and maintaining Python and SQL code in a production setting
  • Experience building and maintaining production machine learning systems in a cloud-based platform, such as AWS SageMaker
  • Experience developing and maintaining custom deep learning models using pytorch and HuggingFace, especially models involving text, audio, and video data
  • Experience using third-party generative AI systems, including prompt engineering and fine-tuning
  • Experience in the accessibility and localization industries
⚡ AI at 3Play

3Play is building AI into how we work across every function. We don't expect expertise — we expect curiosity. If you've used AI tools to work smarter, automated something that used to be manual, or found a better way to do your job with technology, that mindset belongs here.
