Job Description:

The neuropsychologist is trained in the science of brain-behavior relationships and specializes in the application of assessment and intervention principles based on the scientific study of human behavior across the lifespan as it relates to normal and abnormal functioning of the central nervous system. The neuropsychologist provides patient assessments and diagnostic services related to cognitive, psychological, and other behavioral challenges. The neuropsychologist performs neuropsychological evaluations, collaboratively develops care plans, and executes interventions for individuals with traumatic brain injury, stroke, neurodegenerative syndromes, epilepsy, brain tumors, somatoform and other neurological/mental health conditions and developmental disorders as indicated.

Selected candidates will need to complete credentialing prior to starting, process taking 60 - 90 days.

Essential Functions

  • Provide evaluation or neuropsychological testing and develop treatment for patients and/or families with cognitive and/or behavioral impairment. This may include medical conditions, injuries or other neuro-cognitive disorders. If indicated, the neuropsychologist will implement treatment. If the neuropsychologist does not implement the cognitive care plan, they will work with the patient to monitor the patient's response to the treatment and readiness for interventions.
  • Consults with the multi-disciplinary team to develop treatment plans, behavior plans and discharge plans.
  • Participate in providing education opportunities for colleagues, patients, families and community members.
  • Engage in research opportunities as interest, skills, and time constraints allow.
  • Comply with federal, state, local and clinical program/facility standards.
  • For those settings which employ psychometricians or trainees, the neuropsychologist will provide appropriate supervision of these subordinates, complying with requirements from partner institutions and standard professional practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree (Ph.D. or PsyD) in Psychology or Neuropsychology from an accredited institution (degree will be verified).
  • Current license as a psychologist in state(s) in which patient care is delivered
  • Clinical education and training focused on diagnostic neuropsychological assessment.
  • Board Certified in Neuropsychology or equivalent training/experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Membership in the National Academy of Neuropsychologists, International Neuropsychology Society, or American Psychological Association, Division 40 and/or Division 22.
  • Completion of post-doctoral internship or fellowship in a setting focused on patients with neurological or medical conditions (e.g., TBI, neurological and neurodegenerative conditions).
  • Experience with capacity evaluations to determine under what circumstances patients can participate in decision-making.

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and assess various nonverbal cues used in patient diagnosis/assessment in order to understand and develop treatment options.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, as well as hear and respond quickly to emergent needs or issues that may arise with patients.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, etc.
