Remote Tooling Manager information

What is a remote tooling manager?

A Remote Tooling Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing the selection, implementation, and maintenance of software tools used by a distributed or remote team. They ensure the right tools are in place for collaboration, communication, and productivity, and often manage licenses, integrations, and user support. Their role may also involve training team members on new technologies and optimizing tool usage to improve workflow efficiency. Working remotely, they coordinate with team leads and IT departments to align tooling strategies with company goals.

How does a remote tooling manager coordinate with distributed engineering teams to ensure tool adoption and support?

A Remote Tooling Manager typically works closely with engineering and DevOps teams across different locations, using collaboration platforms such as Slack, Jira, and Zoom to facilitate communication. To ensure tool adoption, they organize virtual training sessions, create detailed documentation, and set up regular check-ins to address any issues or feedback. Building strong relationships with team leads and providing responsive support are key strategies for overcoming challenges related to time zones and remote collaboration. This proactive approach helps maintain tool efficiency and user satisfaction across the organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote tooling manager?

To thrive as a Remote Tooling Manager, you need expertise in software development, project management, and tooling infrastructure, often supported by a degree in computer science or engineering. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, cloud platforms, version control systems, and relevant certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer are typically required. Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills are vital for managing distributed teams and fostering collaboration. These skills ensure efficient tooling solutions, smooth remote operations, and successful project outcomes.

Job description

ABOUT DRIPS
Drips is a conversational AI platform that helps enterprise brands and their partners have smarter, more human conversations with customers, at scale. We operate at the intersection of AI, messaging, and revenue-generating outcomes for some of the largest companies in the country.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are hiring a dynamic Senior Product Manager to join our Product team. This is an individual contributor role, reporting directly to the VP of Product & Engineering, and you will work across every department, including Engineering, Operations, Customer Success, Sales, Data Analytics, and AI/ML.
This is a fully remote role, working with fully remote teams. Leading and influencing across departments in a distributed environment is a key experience to success in this role.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
  • End-to-end delivery of product initiatives across multiple domains simultaneously
  • Writing clear, detailed PRDs and functional specs independently, utilizing AI-first workflows at every step along the way
  • Customer and stakeholder discovery, translating messy real-world requirements into scoped, buildable features
  • Owning relationships with external vendors and integration partners from evaluation through go-live
  • Regular communication with exec leadership, including presenting roadmap and status updates with confidence and precision
  • Working hands-on with AI and automation tooling to shape, validate, and accelerate product decisions, including defining requirements for LLM-based features and continually evolving your own workflows and tools to fit the problem in front of you
  • Querying and evaluating data directly to inform decisions and validate outcomes
  • Gaining consensus across Engineering, Customer Success, Sales, and AI/ML without losing momentum

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
  • Product initiatives ship on a predictable cadence, with scope and tradeoffs understood by everyone involved before work starts
  • Customer and stakeholder input is translated into decisions, not just captured
  • Exec leadership has an accurate, current picture of the roadmap and can trust the status they hear
  • Cross-functional partners in Engineering, Customer Success, Sales, and AI/ML see Product as a source of momentum, not a bottleneck

WHO WE ARE
  • A true polyglot. You can write a PRD in the morning, jump on a customer call in the afternoon, and review an API spec before end of day
  • As comfortable analyzing complex data as you are presenting a strategic roadmap to leadership
  • At home in ambiguity. You do not need process handed to you, and you build what is missing rather than waiting for it
  • You treat unfinished problems as opportunities rather than blockers
  • AI-first in how you work. You reach for AI tooling by default and keep reshaping your workflow and toolset as the work and the tools change
  • A deliberate remote collaborator. You over-communicate by default and build trust across departments and time zones without needing a room

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
REQUIRED
  • 7+ years of product management experience in B2B SaaS or high-growth startup environments
  • Proven track record in delivery-heavy roles where you shipped product, not just planned it
  • Hands-on experience with AI/ML products, conversational AI, NLP, or messaging platforms
  • API and integration fluency, you understand how systems connect and can own the details
  • SQL proficiency, you're comfortable pulling your own data rather than waiting on analysts
  • An AI-first way of working, you use AI tooling to accelerate your own output without sacrificing quality or judgment, and you actively evolve your workflows and tools as your needs change
  • Demonstrated ability to manage external vendor and partner relationships end-to-end
  • Strong written communication, your specs and updates are clear the first time
  • Proven success leading cross-functional work in a fully remote, distributed organization, building alignment across departments without relying on in-person proximity

STRONG PLUS
  • Prior experience in a product-adjacent role, including engineering, implementation, sales, or customer success
  • Enough technical fluency to read and reason about code in an AI-assisted development environment, so you can ask sharper questions and pressure-test scope with Engineering
  • Interest in prototyping directly to validate an idea or communicate intent faster than a spec can. This is a product role, not an engineering role, you will not be assigned production development work or carry engineering deliverables
  • Background spanning both enterprise and startup contexts
  • Experience building product for enterprise healthcare, particularly with insurance payers, and familiarity with the compliance and regulatory constraints that come with it
