What is a remote tester?

Remote testers are professionals who evaluate software, websites, or products from a location outside of the company's physical office. They perform testing tasks such as identifying bugs, verifying features, and ensuring usability using digital tools and communication platforms. Remote testers play a crucial role in quality assurance by providing feedback and reporting issues to development teams. Their work helps companies deliver reliable and user-friendly products without the need for on-site presence.

What do remote testers do?

The job of a remote tester is to work from home to test software or a product and provide feedback to an engineering department. You may help develop a manual for using the product, determine whether or not automation in the product is working, or follow a script to ensure the QA test covers every possible facet of the product. A remote tester often helps to debug software by working to isolate the cause of errors. If you test software, this job may require sitting for extended periods. Qualifications for remote tester jobs typically include a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote tester, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Tester, you need a solid understanding of software testing methodologies, attention to detail, and experience with test case design—typically supported by a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with test management tools (like Jira or TestRail), automated testing frameworks (such as Selenium), and bug tracking systems is highly valued. Strong communication, self-motivation, and time management are essential soft skills for collaborating effectively in a remote environment. These skills and qualities ensure accurate, efficient testing and seamless integration with distributed development teams.

What are some common challenges remote testers face when collaborating with distributed development teams?

Remote Testers often work with teams spread across different time zones and locations, which can lead to communication delays and coordination challenges. Staying aligned on testing requirements, build releases, and bug fixes may require proactive communication through tools like Slack, Jira, or daily stand-ups. Building strong relationships and maintaining clear documentation are essential for ensuring testing coverage and timely feedback. Remote Testers also need to be self-motivated and organized to manage their workload independently while staying synced with the team's goals.

What is the difference between Remote Tester vs QA Tester?

While both roles require similar skills and certifications, Remote Testers are more specialized in testing execution, whereas QA Testers encompass a wider quality assurance scope.

Job description

At arrivia, we're passionate about making travel experiences unforgettable. As a global leader in the travel industry, we're looking to hire a talented Senior Marketing Specialist to join our dynamic team.

About the Role

This is a senior, hands-on role covering email, lifecycle, product, and promotional marketing on the arrivia marketing team. You will build, optimize, and scale the automated and promotional campaigns that reach our members every day, and email is where those member relationships live.

Your impact shows up fast. Your segmentation, testing, and personalization decisions move real numbers, you get three disciplines in one seat, and you will have room to change the approach when the data says to. You will do it from wherever you work best, connected to a team that spans both coasts.

What You'll Own

  • Email Campaigns: Create, build, and optimize automated and promotional emails in Marketo and our CMS.
  • Lifecycle Programs: Own member journeys from onboarding through re-engagement.
  • Product Marketing: Turn product and offer launches into compelling member communications.
  • Promotional Campaigns: Deliver high-volume pushes on tight turnarounds without losing quality.
  • Segmentation and Personalization: Target campaigns by member preference, demographics, and behavior.
  • Marketing Automation: Use Marketo or comparable tools to streamline workflows and cut manual steps.
  • Performance Analytics: Measure results, spot trends, and feed them into the next optimization.
  • Testing and Improvement: Find what is underperforming and fix it without waiting for direction.
  • Remote Collaboration: Partner with sales, operations, and other teams across time zones so the customer journey stays seamless.
  • AI-Enabled Marketing: Use modern AI tools for content, audience analysis, and campaign optimization. arrivia is committed to AI-driven innovation and expects our marketers to use AI to work faster and decide better.

What You'll Bring

  • 5+ years of marketing experience with a strong grasp of best practices and industry trends.
  • Deep, hands-on email marketing expertise. This is the core of the role.
  • Experience across lifecycle, product, and promotional marketing. Strength in several of these matters more than all of them.
  • 2 to 5 years with Marketo or comparable marketing automation software, a significant advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills and the habit of letting data drive decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with email content that resonates.
  • Proven cross-functional collaboration and the ability to build relationships remotely.
  • Comfort in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with quick turnarounds.
  • Leadership qualities, initiative, and a proactive, go-getter mindset that shows up without an office around you.
  • Travel or cruise industry experience is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary Range: $75,000 – $100,000 per year. Final compensation within this range is determined by individual qualifications, location, depth of hands-on experience, and relevant skills.

  • Unlimited PTO

  • Exclusive employee travel rates

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k)
