What is a remote test engineer?

A Remote Test Engineer is a professional who designs, develops, and executes tests to ensure the quality of software products, but works from a location outside the traditional office, often from home. Their responsibilities include creating test cases, identifying bugs, collaborating with development teams, and ensuring that software meets specified requirements. Remote Test Engineers use various tools to communicate and manage their work, ensuring effective teamwork despite geographic distance. This role typically requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in automated and manual testing techniques.

How does a remote test engineer typically collaborate with development teams to ensure product quality?

As a Remote Test Engineer, collaboration with development teams is often facilitated through online communication tools, daily stand-ups, and shared project management platforms. Test Engineers are responsible for designing and executing test plans, reporting bugs, and providing feedback to developers in real time. Effective communication and documentation are key, as clear bug reports and test results help bridge the distance and reduce misunderstandings. Expect to work closely with both developers and product managers to proactively identify issues and ensure releases meet quality standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote test engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Test Engineer, you need strong analytical skills, experience in software testing methodologies, and a background in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with automation tools like Selenium, JIRA, and CI/CD platforms, as well as relevant certifications such as ISTQB, is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and self-motivation skills help you collaborate effectively and manage tasks independently in a remote environment. These skills ensure reliable software quality, efficient teamwork, and productivity without in-person supervision.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a .NET Engineer Middle based in Netherlands.

Join a remote engineering team building scalable, high-traffic technology for a fast-moving fintech environment.
You will design, develop, and maintain reliable backend solutions using C# and modern .NET technologies.
The role combines hands-on software development with distributed systems, data-intensive workloads, APIs, and cloud-native infrastructure.
Your work will directly contribute to products where technology, data, performance, and reliability are critical to the user experience.
You will collaborate with engineers and cross-functional stakeholders to turn complex business requirements into clean and maintainable solutions.
There is also significant scope to improve observability, engineering practices, and development efficiency through modern tools and AI-assisted workflows.
This opportunity is well suited to a mid-level engineer who enjoys solving challenging technical problems and working with modern backend technologies.

Accountabilities

  • Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into clean, maintainable components aligned with established architectural principles.
  • Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional stakeholders to design, implement, and deliver new product features.
  • Write clean, testable, maintainable, and well-documented code supported by appropriate unit, integration, and load testing.
  • Work with asynchronous programming, multithreading, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures to build reliable services.
  • Investigate production incidents and improve system observability through effective use of logs, metrics, traces, and business data.
  • Contribute to performance optimization, scalability improvements, and overall system reliability.
  • Work with APIs, relational databases, caching systems, and messaging technologies as part of the broader technology ecosystem.
  • Research and evaluate new technologies, tools, AI capabilities, and engineering practices that can improve product quality and development efficiency.
  • Contribute to continuous integration and delivery processes and support reliable software deployment practices.
  • Participate actively in an Agile development environment, collaborating with teammates to continuously improve products and engineering workflows.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of commercial software development experience using C# and modern .NET.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Hands-on experience with multithreading and asynchronous programming.
  • Proven experience building and operating software in production environments.
  • Familiarity with distributed systems and event-driven architectures, including message brokers such as RabbitMQ or Apache Kafka.
  • Understanding of scalability and reliability principles, with some practical exposure to performance tuning.
  • Solid experience with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL; familiarity with NoSQL databases is an advantage.
  • Experience developing and consuming APIs using technologies such as REST, GraphQL, or gRPC.
  • Hands-on experience with Entity Framework.
  • Practical experience with Docker and a basic understanding of Kubernetes concepts.
  • Experience writing and maintaining unit and integration tests.
  • Experience with continuous integration and delivery tools, preferably GitLab and ArgoCD.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced Agile environment and collaborating effectively with distributed teams.
  • Understanding of modern AI capabilities and limitations, with hands-on experience using AI-powered coding assistants or agents.
  • English proficiency at B1 level or higher, sufficient for technical discussions and documentation.
  • Experience with ClickHouse or other analytical databases for large-scale data processing is a plus.
  • Experience with AWS or another major cloud platform is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform is advantageous.
  • Experience in fintech, trading, or other high-load environments is a strong plus.
Benefits
  • Fully remote working opportunity.
