Job description

The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is seeking an Industrial Water/Wastewater Controls Engineer to help grow the Industrial Water Treatment Group in the Northwestern US Region. We are seeking an energetic individual interested in pursuing and supporting a variety of challenging projects. The successful candidate will work closely with Principal and Project Engineers, Scientists, and Project Managers on a variety of mining and industrial wastewater projects. Duties will include both office work and field work. Technical writing skills are critical for the successful candidate. Experience with environmental and industrial systems (mining or industrial plants) is necessary. Experience with industrial control systems is required.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Interact with commercial/industrial clients to identify process solutions.

  • Work hand in hand with internal engineering and design teams on single- and multi-disciplined projects.

  • Prepare and write proposals and technical documents. Prepare and write work orders.

  • Prepare and perform calculations related to water/wastewater control systems.

  • Perform basic electrical and controls evaluations for identified water treatment solutions and chemically treated processes.

  • Interface with vendors, equipment suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.

  • Interact with industrial vendors to develop detailed cost estimates for solutions presented to industrial clients.

  • Traveling to remote work sites throughout the Western US (approx. 50% of travel required).

  • Other duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Controls or Chemical Engineering is preferred).

  • 2+ years of industrial water treatment and controls experience.

  • EIT.

  • Willingness to work towards P.E. certification.

  • Experience with electrical and controls engineering.

  • Good communication and coordination skills.

  • Ability to travel to client locations, both sites and offices (approx. 50% travel required).

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • A Pre-employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations is required.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience and exposure to water treatment plant operations is preferred.

  • Experience with Allen-Bradley, ABB, or other DCS control systems.

  • Scaling up control systems, instruments, and equipment for industrial processes.

  • Ability to read and design schematics related to electrical and industrial control systems.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment weighing up to 10lbs when in the field.

  • Office work will include extended periods sitting or standing at a desk and using a computer and other office equipment.

Work Environment / Environmental Factors:

  • Field work will include work to be performed outside, as a result will include working in various environmental factors (weather, altitude, terrain, etc.). This can include remaining stationary for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting, and sitting for site oversight and other field activities.

  • This position is open to remote candidates within Northwestern US Region. Candidate must be willing to travel to remote job locations including Colorado or Nevada. This arrangement is subject to review and may change at the company's discretion.

Additional Information:

  • Full-time, Monday through Friday work schedule (40 hours). Occasionally extended hours may be required based on project and/or client needs.

  • Work will be performed in primarily an office setting, but will require travel to remote job locations.

Target salary range:  $65,000 to $80,000. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.
